I love fairs and Fair Food! I go to only one or two per year so its a treat for me. since fair food is normally a little expensive, I have a light dinner or lunch before I go, then decide on a treat after seeing whats available. I Never make the fair food my complete dinner or lunch, just a treat. Since I never go alone, if i buy a funnel cake, its is shared amoung us.

I went to the local equivalent of the fair last week. There were booths with organic salads, etc.

But you wouldn't catch me dead eating at those places. I ate a giant serving of pulled pork on top of fries and a huge pile of coleslaw. Then washed it down with 24 ozs of frozen lemonade.

Enjoy yourself. One day won't hurt..a lifetime of eating poorly will.

At our fair, we are fortunate to have peaches in the peak of season. Buy a bag and go wild!

Places like that, and the huge fall festival in my hometown every year, I would always make a one-day, one-meal exception. I would get something that is only offered there; why waste calories on a "treat" if it's something I can get year round?

Enjoy it, make the best decision you can, but at the end of the day, don't beat yourself up over it or stress about it!

Usually, I pick one special treat and indulge in that.

This year, I just got a slice of cheese pizza for lunch, and later on in the evening, got a Gyro w/ no sauce, ate the lettuce and meat, and gave the BF the pita bread.

It was still really good!

I would recommend:
-eating beforehand
-organic beef/turkey jerky in purse
- chinese food: request no sauce on chicken/veggies
- chicken wings
- giant turkey leg
- steak/chicken kabobs

I went to the fair two days ago. I took my own snack which I ate and then I bought some chocolate ice cream in a cup.

Eating healthy at the fair is quite a challenge, you're really lucky there's a farmers market there!

Good luck!

Today, I am going to the county fair. There are many temptations at the fair....funnel cakes, fries, the dairy farmer's milkshakes! It is possible to eat healthy at the fair, however. First, I am going to make a very large bottle of ice water to take along. Second, I am packing my own snack just in case. Third, I am hunting out the leanest food I can find that still tastes delicious. I am thinking about a grilled pork chop sandwich maybe, ditching half the bread. And there is a farmer's market there; I am certain I can find some fresh fruit or veggie to enjoy. After I return, I will post all the good for you yummy food I have found at the fair....more to come! emoticon
