It definitely gets easier once you start doing it consistently. The key is making sure you get enough sleep/go to bed early enough the night before. When starting off I would put my alarm far enough away from my bed so I had to get out to turn it off. Good luck!

Such wonderful tips - thank you, N16351D! Today is day two of my early morning workouts. I have to tell you, I feel great having exercised 6 days last week. I was actually eager to get up and get going this morning with my workout. I find that a half a bowl of cereal works well for me before I workout -- gives me a little extra energy without filling up my stomach.

Yes! Absolutely yes, exercising early gets easier! I have been doing it for over 30 years and I am thrilled now that I chose to do that. I have been there, done that!
Tips: 1)Increase the wake-up hour in segments. Example, if you normally rise at 7 AM, set the alarm for 6:30 instead of 5:30 AM. Make the change gradually. 2) Get to bed early (you already are...keep that up!) 3) Find a friend to meet you 1- 5 days a week for exercise. It helps to have an accountability partner. (It is hard to find someone to get up early to exercise, as most people don't do it!) 4)"Get up when you wake up. Wake up when you get up." (Heard that in a church sermon... forgot the author of the quote 5) Skip the coffee. Instead, have a small piece of fruit and water. You need water before and after exercise. The coffee has caffiene and drugs are not as healthy for you as water. 6) Wear some of your exercise clothes to bed, if they are not too binding- it helps you get going faster and easier. 7) Have the other clothing out and ready to go 8) Instead of heading out "for an hour", tell yourself you'll just go for a short time. Usually once you are started, you'll want to keep going and not quit. 9)"Just do it." Nike 10) Remind yourself of all the benefits of exercise and why you are doing this. Have a list ready to read each morning if necessary.

I much prefer working out early in the morning to in the evening. I'm just more tired in the evening after a usually busy day at work... I find early in the morning it's the first thing I do, and I find it invigorating.
It is a habit though, and it did take some time to get used to it. But, I now enjoy and look forward to it.

Not quite sure how so many jump out of bed and go work out or run. I'm guessing this is an age thing... I zone out on the computer for a little bit to wake up, while husband is in the shower, then eat a light breakfast and get him off to work. THEN is my time. (Of course I realize I am one of the privileged ones who don't "go off" to work, but plan my own days. ) Bottom line: Whatever works, Just do it!

I was an early-morning exerciser for a couple of years. Now I am an evening one, because I tend to snack after supper and if I keep myself busy then I don't snack. Also, being so busy, sometimes that extra hour of sleep makes me more full of energy to get through the day. Anyways, after time it does get easier when you do exercise in the morning. After a couple of weeks and still feeling very tired working out first thing in the morning, see if something else works for you. You want to enjoy working out, not dragging out of bed feeling like it's a chore! I hope this helps :) Good luck and have a great healthy day!

Good morning everyone! Today is my work from home day so I slept in until 5:45. I a getting ready to jump on my treadmill at 6:15am.
back on track today, got up and got the work-out in! the worst part of yesterday was knowing that i still was going to have to work-out when i got in from work....nice to be back to my regular routine. was a much easier day today :)
hope today is a great day for everyone and you are able to meet all your goal!!! and know if you are an AM exerciser, your exercise is problably done by now :)

Thank you all for your recommendations, suggestions and replies. The early morning wake-up is getting a little easier. I think what is truly working is the positive reinforcement I receive from completing my workout first thing in the morning.
want planning on posting this AM, but the ironitic part is i guess it really does become a habit, even when we dont think it is
woke up and looked at the clock and realized that i woke up 1hr late...too late to work out- so jumped into shower, got ready for work....went into the kitchen after getting ready to only notice, i didnt get up late-did wake up at my usual work out time, just needed to put the contacts in to see better-so good news, it is a habit now, bad news have 1 hr of wasted time where i could have gotten my work out in....:)

I understand.. I am a night person and prefer working out around 7 pm. Basically, it is my stress relief after a long day. But it is getting dark earlier and our walking trails are closed dusk to dawn so I am trying to run in the mornings and it's so hard. I find myself wanting to skip and sleep in. Hopefully it will get easier as it becomes routine.

I think it depends if you are morning or night person. I have been doing morning workouts for a very long time. I am an early bird. However now i have to get up little bit earlier if I go for a run - to make sure i am back before my baby is up.
You have to listen to your body. If exercising so early in the morning makes you feel very tired - its not working for you and there is not a point in killing yourself. Good luck

If you keep it up, it will get easier, but it may never be your most favorite thing to do.
I did try morning workouts for a while, but since I am SO not a morning person, I was actually more consistent when I scheduled working out for later in the day.
You might try having a bit of food before your workout. You might be getting extra tired because your body has been using its energy reserves during sleep, and if you are drinking your coffee black it's getting this harsh stimulant (caffeine) before getting any usable calories every morning. It doesn't have to be a lot, maybe half a protein drink, a small piece of fruit, or even milk in your coffee.
It will get easier. I know right now that sounds ridiculous but it will.
I have an easier time getting up early in the winter (sounds crazy I know) but it gets light so early then (right now I don't see the sun until about 7:30 a.m.) I like being up an hour or two before the sun so I like winter better (at least for that).
Once you get into that routine (and don't do it once) you'll notice the difference. Be patient with yourself. As long as you stay consistent it should get easier over time.

Like just about everything - some days are easier than others. While I don't do an intensive workout early in the morning; I do have to get out the door and walk the dog.
Consistency creates routine, but it does take a little struggle some days.
i am right there with you trying to get the work-out in the morning. i also get up at crack of dawn to get it done, around 3:15a-3:30a. some days are easier than others...but that being said dont think it ever gets easier...i just know i have to do it no excuses. tried doing after work but always had an excuse...over time it just becomes a habit and you dont think about it....i just keep thinking to myself, just have to do it!!! and just just drag yourself out of bed. i have a motivational quote posted which says, somewhere there is someone busier than you getting their work-out in.
i also try hard to get to bed around the same time you do....i try and post every morning after i work out just to keep myself accountable so i get it done. would be willing to be a check in buddy if you need one!!! good luck-

I realized that the only way to consistently fit exercise in to my day is to complete my workouts first thing in the morning. I have been getting up at 4:15am to have some coffee before I workout from 4:45am-5:30am (home gym). Today is day three and I am tired. I find that the alarm goes off when I am in the middle of a dream.
Now - will the early morning rising get easier over time? I do go to sleep at about 9:00/9:30pm.
