After completing the "detox" over a month ago my husband and I have both kept the lost pounds and inches off. Plus it was an awesome way to get back on track and get rid of sugar and wheat cravings in 3 days. We will be doing this again in a few months. Yes we do put GARBAGE in our bodies, and a detox or fast has been used for centuries to help re-center ones mind, body and spirit. After the holiday's and holiday's treat aka garbage the detox was in desperate need.

The reason there are so many negative comments is because **detoxes don't work.** You can't cleanse your body, and you can't flush toxins out of it... your body isn't a toilet, it can't be flushed.

It's fine to eat healthy, but why are you eating healthy for only a few days, or weeks? The only "cleanse" that's worth doing is skipping t he crap and eating whole foods. But even then, you're not detoxing anything. You have a liver, and kidneys, and that's what they do. The foods you eat, the pills you take, and the fluids you drink, can't take anything out of the body your digestive system isn't already.

I'll be starting the 3 day cleanse after having enjoyed Christmas a little too much and then going on a week cruise. I have lost about 30 pounds in the past year, but have hit a plateau for a few months. So I need to get back on track. I'm not doing it because of Dr. Oz, I'm doing it because it includes real food full of natural vitamins and not pills that cost more. I've purchased all the items, many that I eat regularly (I often eat kale or spinach in my smoothies) and prepared them ready to be blended. The trick will be to keep busy as my problem is eating out of habit not hunger. I'm hoping this will give me the boost I need at this time. 3 days is definitely doable!

I am also surprised by the number of negative comments here. I did one short (5 day) and one longer (16 day) cleanse this year, and nothing has left me feeling more healthy, energized, and motivated to stick to a healthy lifestyle. I've not tried this particular program, but several years ago I did a pre-packaged nine day cleanse and lost 20 pounds, 16 of which I kept off for several years (until I let my diet and activity level decline), so I don't think it is necessarily all water weight (although I have learned enough to know I can do a detox without buying a bunch of products). I just thought I'd post my 2 cents in case anyone out there is considering a detox, because I certainly have found benefits to doing them, for whatever that is worth :-)

I was lucky to have several of the ingredients on hand so I don't think I spent that much $$ but today is my last day, I have my dinner shake remaining. I have not found a need to do a snack shake but instead have had a Tbs. of almond butter for a snack. This morning, I was delighted to see I'd already lost over 4 pounds!! Will it come back when I start 'eating' again? I don't know but I'm delighted. I FEEL cleaner. One thing I used that helped the flavor of the shakes was stevia. MUCH, much better!

After I finish this I'm going to do his weekend cleanse which allows for a little more solid food. Quinoa for breakfast and a veggie soup for dinner. I admit, I'm quite excited! Chewing is underrated, lol!

First off I am surprised at how negative some of the comments are - I am on my final day of the cleanse, the first day was awful but that was my fault for being so heavily addicted to caffeine. My husband is doing it to and he sailed straight through - all 4 shakes are a total of 1745 calories so you are getting enough food. I have not been hungry on the plan. If you are not used to eating whole foods yes it is probably "funky" to your taste buds. We got rid of our microwave 2 years ago and do not buy "boxed" or frozen meals - we do buy frozen veggies and fruit to save on costs. Depending on where you live buy the fruit frozen is your least expensive option. Also if you have never used Kale maybe you didn't prep it properly (you only eat the leaf). I have also just completed reading Dr. Davis's Wheat Belly book - we are fully embracing this and are very excited because it will give us more options by teaching us to use other ingredients such as almond flour, coconut flour etc... I really over did it over the holidays and put on 10 pounds and felt like I had been ran over by a mack truck since my body was so junked up with holiday "goodies" at the start of day 3 - I have lost a total of 4.3 pounds and feel like myself again. I have not been using the bathroom more than normal, but my stomach is a lot less bloated and honestly I was really gassy before the cleanse and my body is back in balance and the gas is gone. To each there own - but this has been very helpful. I do not believe in packaged and processed food & I no longer allow myself the cop-out that it is too expensive to eat healthy, or to time consuming. I am worth the time, and the money so is my health. Best Wishes to all for a healthy new year!

Any PRODUCT Dr. Oz promotes is probably just a fad, though his simple advice (that we've heard from a million different sources already) is usually not bad.I feel like a cleanse is more of a mental process than a physical one. It like, preps your mind to get into diet mode, and maybe it tricks you into not breaking your diet since you went through a longer process like a cleanse to begin it.

I think I agree with pretty much everyone on here - except that I don't know enough about Dr. Oz to call him a quack. And have no desire to learn enough about him to know. :)

I do like the fact that the 3-day-cleanse uses whole foods though. I looked at it, thought it would be too expensive and silly for me (since smoothies all day have never been able to keep me full), and passed it by. But I've done tons of these types of faddish things before and there's usually at least one good thing I get out of each of them. If you want to do it, and you've got the cash, give it a whirl. Maybe you magically lose 10 lbs, maybe you get better skin and hair, and maybe you finally get that job of your dreams...or maybe you just learn something about yourself and how your body responds to stuff.

Like, maybe you learn you hate smoothies. Maybe you learn kale is awesome. Maybe you learn that your digestive system does NOT respond beautifully to this type of nutrition. Whatever.

As long as you aren't doing something super-unhealthy or for a long time (and listen to your body - it will tell you to stop if you are doing something nuts), I think there's good that can come out of these type of experiments. But if you go into it mentally unhealthy or desperate for a miracle (rather than going into it just hoping to learn something about yourself), then maybe it's not such a hot idea. I learned something with every silly cleanse or fad I tried in the past. Sometimes I learned things I can use in the future, and sometimes I just reinforced my motivation to stick with a healthy eating plan rather than a "diet".

I am on Day 3 of the Detox and in my bed starving waiting on the last shake of the day. As far as cost, I spent around $110 and had to buy all ingredients. Some were very hard to find, but I found them. I have lost 5 pounds. But I am definitely going to binge tomorrow. I have not felt energized or anything different. Just hungry. The shakes, day one, I hated all three. The breakfast shake was ok, the lunch shake was think and lumpy, and the dinner shake was too spicy. The second day, I preferred the lunch shake. Same as today. I have been struggling with loose stools for a long time and I am hoping that the cleanse will help restore normal bowels. However, it's been straight liquid during the detox. We will see afterwards if it works when I resume my normal diet.

Great. I understand about cost of the food. I am 75% raw and i spend quite a lot of veggies and fruit. I am getting better. Sorry that you are unemployed, that is rough.
Glad that you used the food though. You can always keep to at least one green smoothie a day. The benefits are absolutely amazing.

There are 3 drinks (breakfast, lunch and dinner). You repeat any one of those for the snack. I doubled the lunch drink out of convenience. However I liked the lunch drink. I have heard several people say it was too thick and they liked the breakfast drink better. It is your choice.

I just completed the 3 day cleanse. Yes it is more expensive than indicated and yes you are losing mainly water. However it was a great way for me to "jump" start my holiday diet and reset some of poor habits. It also introduced me to kale and coconut oil. I plan on incorporating both into a lot my meals. So, if you have hit a wall with your weight loss or need to reset some eating habit, I whole heartedly recommend this cleanse. By the way, I lost 6 pounds. Enough to reset me mentally and encourage me not to eat mindlessly at all these upcoming holiday events!

I am planning on tracking my food and restricting my caloric intake as much as possible this month. That said, I know there will be times or events that I eat more than I burn. I will probably do this cleanse again in January.

On another note, this is suppose to cost $48.00. It costs more. The coconut oil alone costs $10.00. However you only use 3 Tbsp. The flax seed can also be expensive but I can buy in bulk and I only spend $2.50 on it. The only other 3 things that were not staples in my house were the almond butter (can't remember cost), coconut water (2 for about $1.50 ea) and kale (superfood). All the other ingredients are things I would normally purchase. I bought frozen berries and mango. I purchased canned pineapple. Everything else was fresh.

This morning was my first "solid" meal since the cleanse. I scrambled 2 eggs (eggs and water - no milk or chz) in 2 tsp coconut oil. I topped with 1/4 avocado. Yummy! I had a banana for my midday snack. Off to a good start!

DIDS70: To clarify what I stated so poorly, let me rephrase it. "I should not have spent $70 on only three days worth of food." Were I employed right now, that would be a ton of money for ONE person to spend on three days of food. Being that I am currently unemployed, it was downright ridiculous. I blame this on myself, not Dr. Oz (although as someone else mentioned, I, too, believe he is inconsistent in his "beliefs").

However, I did not waste any of the food. In fact, I'm drinking a smoothie this morning that is using nearly the last of the pineapple. I gave the mango to my mother simply because she LOVES mango, and I could take it or leave it. And, I actually DID find that recipe to make Kale chips, because I didn't want to waste that, either. And guess what?! I LOVED those chips! Who would have thunk it? LOL

why is the food wasted. who said that you couldn't use the food in other ways. Kale makes awesome salads not to mention kale chips. I am not sure what else you had to buy for this supposed cleanse, but I am sure the ingredients could be put in salads or make smoothies you like and not just because they are part of his detox. kale can get "sludgy" if you don't have a powerful enough blender. I have a vitamix and it does great.

I'm no fan of Dr. Oz's - he doesn't believe in himself. If he did, he would have consistent advice, which he does not. So why should we believe him?

Detoxes don't work. There's nothing wrong with a healthy food "cleanse" that gets you away from eating junk, but anything that claims to "flush toxins" or worse, fat, from your body is pulling your chain. If you eat fewer calories, you will lose weight, but you can't flush your body. It's not a toilet! Don't treat it like one.

You have a liver and kidneys that do that job. You can't eat certain foods or combinations of foods to flush anything from your body.

Dr. Oz is a supplement hawker; he'll sell whatever he's paid to sell, and what little credibility he used to have has been lost.

There are three smoothies that you drink each day on this cleanse. One for breakfast, a different one for your lunch drink, and a different one for dinner. When it says to "repeat your favourite drink", it means you can pick one of these three smoothies for your fourth "snack" smoothie. Just pick the one you like best. For me, it was definitely the breakfast smoothie.

BIANDA620 you could not have lost 8 pounds of fat in three days. So your results were most likely related to water loss. I am not sure what you gained by sticking with it. Our bodies don't require a detox. If a person decides to consume expensive smoothies for three days, that is a personal choice. Unfortunately, smoothies or detoxs don't equate to improved health. Think of all the healthy food you could buy with money spent on a detox.

WOW!!! What a difference a day makes. Yesterday, not one other person had posted that they had tried this cleanse, were considering it, or even thought it was a good idea. But now I see a few people have completed it with great results!!! I am SO disappointed in myself. After the 3rd of 4 smoothies yesterday, having had the headache and lost my enthusiasm/energy to exercise, I saw that my 4th smoothie would also include Kale (which I assume to have contributed to the "green sludge" feel of smoothie #2) and I GAVE UP EARLY!!! DARN IT. What a waste of over $70 in food alone. :(

DEERSJA and BIANDA620...congratulations on your weight loss, but more importantly, congratulations on sticking with it!!! I admire the both of you for doing so.

MOTHEROFBOYS5...I'm not a huge caffeine drinker. Maybe one cup of coffee and possibly one diet soda per day, if that. Sometimes neither. Just depends. But thank you so much for the kind words of advice.

And DMJAKES...I am 43 years old. My pic is old as I came to SP in 2006, then lost weight, and took a hiatus from the site. In 2009 my hormones were being checked by a specialist and then I had the dreaded "partial hysterectomy"...since then, I've steadily gained weight, am overly emotional (as opposed to be underly-emotional as I've always been...LOL), and I've always had insomnia. However, my hormones have not been checked since shortly after my surgery and I'm now without insurance so they will not be checked anytime soon. I do believe this is probably a hormone issue so I've purchased a copy of "The Hormone Diet" by Dr. Natasha Turner. It is supposed to arrive within the next 1-2 weeks. Hopefully this book will shed some light on my issues and help me find my way back

Oh, and just a P.S. since a few mentioned Dr. Oz...I'm also not technically one of his "followers". He seems to have gone too "commercial" to be of much help to any of us now. I do occasionally watch his show if I feel he has someone on that may be of merit. However, in the few shows I've watched, I feel that he seems to contradict some of his "findings" between the shows.

To the people experiencing the high weight loss (7 pounds/8 pounds), don't expect it to stay. It's pretty much mathematically impossible to lose that much weight - it's probably mostly water, so it might come back when you go back to regular eating.

Could the headache be from caffeine withdrawal? If you're used to coffee / soda / or tea every day, that could be the cause of the headache!

Make yourself a strong cup of coffee, take some OTC pain meds, and lie down in a dark room for 30 minutes. Use a cool or hot compress on your head, whatever feels best. See if that helps!!

I can really empathize with the headaches and find them incredibly debilitating at times. Good luck and feel better!!

I also decided to do the Dr. Oz 3 day cleanse after Thanksgiving. Although doing a decent job of eating sensibly (I introduced my family to 3 new Sparks recipes that day!) , I still wanted to give it a try. I never thought I would ever do a cleanse. I agree that the touted $17 a day was way, way off mark. I even had some of the ingredients & the grocery bill still came to more than $80 (I should have bought the raspberries at Costco). Lessons learned - heat the coconut oil before trying to add to smoothie. The lunch smoothie was too massive to fit into my blender. I had to use my food processor. I drank lots of water. I was very tired the first day (probably from caffeine withdrawal) plus a headache later that day (again withdrawal). I did go to the gym all 3 days but only did 20 mins on the bike and 45 mins on the elliptical. On the 3rd day I noticed a significant increase in energy. All in all, I didn't cheat and I made it!! Will I do it again? Not sure yet. I did lose 8 pounds, which is always a plus. Right now, I feel good. Is it the cleanse? Is it just that I started and finished the cleanse? Is it just that I am carrying 8 fewer pounds? Not sure. But I'll take it. Good is still Good!!

SDRochelle - in one of your posts you talk about weight gain, feeling overly-emotional, and insomnia....I don't know how old you are but it sounds like possible peri-menopause to me. That's EXACTLY how I felt for the first year or so, but the bells didn't go off in my head until my period started getting wonky, and my OB confirmed it at my annual visit. If you're not old enough for that, I'd be headed to the doc anyway.

I'm so disappointed with Dr. Oz...he started off so good when he was with that other doc (can't remember his name) but started getting "sensational" when he was on Oprah (no surprise there).

I just finished this cleanse, started the day after thanksgiving and lost seven pounds. I did not have any real side effects and was able to do my normal workouts. I did miss chewing! I ended up eating some of the celery and cucumber instead of blending it all for the lunch "sludge". Not going to lie I was ready to give up after the first day, but then I weighed myself and was so happy to see some weight loss after being on a weight loss plateau the last two months. Not a Dr. Oz follower just happened to come across an article on hormones and weight loss and figured it couldn't hurt. For me it was really about getting back on track.

As a brief update, in case anyone out there is considering this cleanse...this is only my first day and I've only drank three of the four smoothies so far. The breakfast smoothie isn't bad, the lunch smoothie was like drinking green sludge, and then I had a horrendous headache that lasted a couple of hours. I'm seriously considering just bagging the cleanse but I hate to fail at anything. So, now I'm on smoothie three and am feeling better but not great. I still have to exercise today and don't have much energy for it. I'll probably finish out the day and then reconsider this again in the morning. It wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to admit to myself that this was probably a bad idea. :)

I have not heard of his 3 day cleanse; but have read up on the 48 hour cleanse...probably very similar.

It probably won't hurt you...but there really is no benefit to this "cleanse." I would vote for a good healthy daily diet before I would every give this 2 thumbs up.

Looks like it is just another way to give some sensationalism to his show. No science to back up the claims either. Professionally speaking, I think it is poor nutritional advice.

Well, had I realized it would eat through $70 cash, just for the food portion (and another $30 on multivitamins and probiotics, but I needed to stock up on that anyhow), I probably wouldn't have done it. When he advertised a 3 day cleanse for $16, I thought that was the total, not the cost PER DAY (which it was still more expensive than that).

Although the cleanse consists of 4 smoothies per day, all of the ingredients are healthy (bananas, raspberries, blueberries, spinach, kale, flaxseed, etc). So it is based on a "clean" diet. We'll see how it goes. I tend to get very cranky without eating the actual food in WHOLE form.

I thought I would try to detox myself a bit before getting back into a healthier lifestyle. I have a feeling my stubborn weight gain, my teary-eyed emotional state, my insomnia, etc, may have to do with hormones so I've ordered a copy of "the Hormone Diet" by Dr. Natasha Turner. If the book makes sense, I'll follow those guidelines next. There has to be a reason that my health changed so drastically in the past few years.

Thank you to everyone that replied. I'm surprised no one else has tried this cleanse but I figured I would ask and see if anyone had any positive (or negative) results. Don't ask, don't get. :)

I have not tried the Dr. Oz cleanse, but after all the rich food I ate last week, I understand feeling the need for a little food detox - truthfully, I feel like I could use a detox facility of some sort where all they let me eat is spinach and water until I feel normal again. So I might double up on my smoothies for the rest of the week and eat much lighter. You could probably do something for similar results without buying all the stuff Dr. Oz asks you to. In my opinion, detoxes which focus on clean foods are great. If you aren't eating any solid food, that seems to make people cranky. And any weight loss is likely water weight.

Good morning All! So, today's the day. I purchased all of the ingredients to use for the Dr. Oz 3 Day Cleanse (more expensive than he advertised it) and I'll begin today. I've already had my morning wakeup tea and my breakfast smoothie.

Has anyone here tried this cleanse, and if so, what were the results? Did you lose any weight? Did you FEEL better in general, or perhaps more energized?
