Hello Cassie,
I am new here too and have found great support in the 5 days I've been with SP. I too lost my dad suddenly at a very young age (18) so I know the feeling of loss you are experiencing. He was 51 yrs old. Cherish the memories you have. The pain will lessen with time. You are in the right place to get healthy. Do it not just for you but for your daughter too.

Welcome to SP!
This is a wonderful, supportive community and members are so helpful and knowledgeable.
Just take it one day/ one step at a time and work on small attainable goals. The more progress you make, you will be motivated to meet your next goal.
Be sure to be active on your Spark Teams as it will help keep you accountable. Plus, it's a great way to make new Spark friends.
I do recommend you allow comments on your Spark Page ( it's disabled now) so members can leave positive comments and feedback.

Hi, I am Cassie and Just moved back to the Des Moines area after bouncing back and forth between Ankeny and Cedar Falls (long story) I am back in Des Moines possibly permanently following the sudden loss of my Dad on May 20th. I am still reeling from the loss and trying to get my life together. Since my 20's I have been gaining weight with no end in sight. All throughout my childhood and teens I was very slender, right around 115-120. I was already up to 200 lbs when I was 22 and also became diagnosed with Hypo-Thyroid disorder. I have an amazing 4 year old daughter, but am still carrying around the baby weight and plus some. I now weigh a whopping 245 lbs and I NEED to make a change. I am an emotional eater who also is completely sedentary and I smoke way too many cigarettes. My dad was very unhealthy himself and passed away at only 54 years old, far too young. I NEED to make serious, positive changes to my life for myself and for my daughter. I do NOT want her to know the pain I am experiencing at only 27 in losing a parent. I want to be healthy, more active, and happier. I have tried many diets, and I have counted calories and exercised, but I never see it through, and diets do not work. This is a change I need to make for the rest of my life. I am hoping to find others that we can support each other and all help each other reach our goals. I dont have many friends who are in this boat with me, so support isnt very strong.
