I love beef stroganoff too but haven't had it in years. Thanks to all those sharing their version of this dish.

I usually use lean steak cut into small pieces and brown those. Then, I use fat free sour cream, low fat cream of mushroom soup, salt, pepper. Sometimes I put a little chopped celery and chopped onion (depends on if the kids are home or not). Once heated, I put the sauce over either egg noodles or brown rice.
It's a little less fattening that what my mother taught me how to make, but it's still just as good.
This is my mom's basic recipe (enough for a large family):
2 pounds ground beef or turkey 1 onion chopped garlic minced 1 packet dry onion soup mix 1 family size can of cream of mushroom soup water sour cream
brown ground beef, onion and garlic. Once beef is all browned, drain off fat and return to pot. Add onion soup mix, mushroom soup and about 1/2 the can full of water (that will help rinse out what you can't scrape from the can). Add pepper and other seasonings that you might like (garlic powder, oregano, bay leaf all good additives). Bring to a simmer and let cook for about 20-30 minutes, stirring occasionally to keep it from sticking. When finished stir in large dollops of sour cream (about 1/2 cup I think). Stir in to incorporate. Serve with either mashed potatoes or egg noodles.
This has always been one of my favorite recipes from growing up... and now I just might have to make it one night this week!!
Place meat in bottom of crockpot, sprinkle the onion on top. Mix the soup and the gravy together and then pour over the meat. Cook 6 hours on low. Serve over egg noodles

I love stroganoff! One of my familys favorites: 1 pound of beef (ground or stew meat) 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1/2 cup milk 6 oz sour cream 1 package of mushrooms (any will do, I prefer Bellas) Seasonings: salt, pepper, worscheshire sauce (2tbsp), garlic powder
Brown meat, add seasoning to tast (I like extra pepper). Add mushrooms 3/4 of the way through the browning process. Add soup and milk. It will be thick but will thin a bit. After heating all the way through, turn on low and add sour cream. Heat but be careful to not let it boil. Pour over egg noodles, or rice or thick bread.
We love this so much, sometimes we just eat bowls of the stuff minus the starch. :) This is open to altering as well. I don't remember the recipe my step-mom gave me 15 years ago.. I tweaked it over time until it was perfect. My husband LOVES sour cream, so he is always wanting extra in there. I love mushrooms, so I like to put more in. And, it's easy to double. Hope you like it!

Hi from me, Back in the 70s, I used to purchase something in a box made by Lipton. It was called Beef Strognaoff and everything was included--meat, sauce, seasonings, and topping. All I did was to preheat the oven and open the envelopes of ingredients and cook it. I have not been able to find it for years, but now I discover that I want to fix some, but I don't have the receipe. Does anybody have a receipe to share?
