I let myself have a 'cheat' meal once a week. If I do a whole day, it gets out of control. But, one meal actually helps me not stress out over going out to eat or going to dinner parties. I just know that is my one time to go over and then I'm fine the rest of the week. I lost 30 lbs a couple years ago and did this the whole time. I think whatever works best for you is the right choice.

Probably Friday lunch and that's just leftovers but it's a break from salad or soup and a half a sandwich.

I enjoy eating a good steak. Not any steak...but a big, juicy ribeye, t-bone, strip steak, or porterhouse. Since meat is so high in calories and fat, I limit my steak indulgence to once a month or longer. I've not had a good steak since before November 2012...and my inner self is beginning to scream at me that it wants a good steak dinner. There will come a day, probably sooner than later, when I will give in to this urge to splurge. And I will enjoy it. But I also realize that I must go back to my otherwise normal weight-loss regimen the next day.
I don't think it is wise to deprive yourself of what you want to eat, so long as you don't do it regularly, and once done, you return to your weight-loss routine.

Wanted to update that my"splurge meal" was cut in half. I did eat over calories but in the past I would've went out of control and binged.
I do this. Every 2 weeks, I eat over my calorie range. Not by a ton, and usually one of the two times it's only a few hundred calories over; then once/month I will have a big calorie day, maybe 2500 calories. I do it because it helps me not go over my calories on a daily basis. I still track everything and it doesn't really negatively impact my weight.
I allow myself to go to McD's like once, at the most, twice a month. And I only get a burger (but I never go for those double patties!) and sometimes, I will get the fries, and the occasional soda. But I will always share the fries and/or soda with my Mom.

Yes Cherri, I do this, but no more than once a week, but I do it within reason.
What I do is 3 days before (preferably, but if a special dinner presents itself spur of the moment I do the following 3 days after) I eat on the low end of my calorie range, and pretty much "Bank" an extra 250 calories per day. This gives me about 750 extra calories for that meal, and I have figured out what my "maintenence" calories would be at my current weight- pretty much it's about 700 extra calories over the low end of my calorie range. So I won't gain any weight from that meal and I will still lose weight becuase of the ccalorie deficit the other 6 days.
I also try to drink 2 extra glasses of water that day (total of 10) and Get more activity that day if possible.
I did this through the Holidays and have lost over 30 lbs since I started in October. I still had a Thanksgiving dinner, Christmas Dinner, News Year Dinner and have gone out to dinner a couple times.
My one other trick is that if I am invited out to dinner or to party with food, I eat a healthy snack before going- This allows tpo me to eat, but not Overeat or overindulge.
I used to do that more in the beginning. I just simply called it a cheat day. The problem with it for me, is I would have to work harder the rest of the week to keep reaching my goal. Also, now that I don't really eat like that anymore, I feel sick if I get off track with eating which is a good thing since I don't want to feel like that.

I'm allowing myself a bit more calories than my plan this evening. I've decided that twice a month I'll have something that I normally would not indulge in. I've tracked everything and I've read online this is something many people do to help rev up their metabolism, and to keep from binge eating.
