Every now and then I spend a day at my desk and don't go out - but it's rare

There's never a day i just sit around and do nothing. My "rest" days are days i might enjoy a leisurely walk in the park, some gentle stretching, or maybe just a really short workout. I call they my "active rest" days. Unless I'm sick, I do SOMETHING even if for only 10 minutes.

On Sunday I hardly ever workout, I say hardly ever because there are times that I will go to the gym if I missed more then one workout during the week

I don't necessarily plan to rest but somehow, some days, it just doesn't happen. I try to keep it to 2 days a week.

Sundays are my rest day. I may walk to church (about 2 miles round trip), but my muscles definitely need that rest.

Yes, I take 2 rest days a week. I usually take Sunday (football season, it makes sense) and whatever day I need to during the week. I exercise about 2 hours a day so I need those 2 rest days. Plus they are important to recovery and resting! I rest completely except for normal walking and yoga~

I usually take active rest days, a walk or some yoga. Every few months I'll even take a rest week and just walk and do yoga. It's an important and often overlooked part of health.

No, I do not take a rest day from exercise. However, I have a "choice" day where I can be as active or inactive as I would like. It might be a 10 minute walk and stretch instead of a full 1-hour workout. Or it might be yoga instead of running a few miles, or a 1/2 mile swim instead of 1 mile. You get the idea.
I believe you must keep moving every single day. If you only workout 30 minutes, you are still "resting" some muscles the other 23 1/2 hours of the day!

I just my first rest day on Saturday. I started out exercising 2 months ago just three days a week at first, it quickly escalated to 7 days and I've been really enjoying it. I joined SP last week and read about the importance of rest days, I had a bit of trepidation but decided to take Saturday off, I'm so glad I did! When I danced Sunday my body just naturally wanted to put more bounce in the steps and flex those muscles a bit more, it felt great! I will definitely be doing a rest day every week from now on.

Yes, one to two days per week are rest days. I do cardio,strength training and yoga 5-6 days per week.

Yes! 3 days of running, 3 days of strength training, and 1 day of rest! Sometimes, I double up on the strength training and running, therefore, getting a little extra in, but always take a day 100% off of both. I have to do a lot of convincing to myself to not do any exercise, but I know my body needs that recovery.

I think it's very important to take rest days to allow your body to recover and build strength, especially after a hard workout. On my "rest" days, I only walk the dog.

Definitely. At random. I don't have a regimen of something like 6 on and 1 off or 5 on and 2 off, but for a monthly average, it generally comes out 5-6 on and 1-2 off.

Yes. My muscles need time to recover and repair. I lift 3 days a week with 20-30 minutes HIIT, 2-45 minute cardio days, 1 yoga day and one recovery day (every Sunday). If I really need it I take 2 days. Sometimes I still do some "fun", light cardio on my rest day, like hiking.

Yes, they are necessary not to burn out. It doesn't mean I do nothing that day, just that I choose a different routine that may not be as intensive, for example take a walk rather than do the elliptical.

I just finished two months of working out everyday. So, no, I'm not very good about taking rest days. That being said, I started a new plan on Monday (for a triathlon), and it calls for a rest day every Friday. My goal for November is to follow that plan exactly. I suffered through a rest day yesterday and I can honestly say I feel rested and ready for today's hard workouts.

I start my week Monday-Sunday with usually 2 days off during the week...I usually take Tuesday and Friday off and workout on the weekends!!

Oh if only I could!

I find it almost impossible to take rest days, even though I know it is so important.

I workout hard 7 days a week, and even the manager at my gym has spoken to me a few times about incorporating a rest day - but I'm my own worst enemy and think that if I miss a workout then I'm being lazy and will pile on the weight.

Silly I know, but there we are - and it's threads like this one that make me re-evaluate things and start thinking about how important rest days are, especially as I get older and it takes my body longer to recover from working out.

I take anywhere from one to three rest days per week. (If I take three, it means I'm slacking on my strength training, but that does happen sometimes.) I need that day to just chill and relax!

I do my cardio 5 days/week (Monday-Friday; in the mornings) and strength training 3 days/week. I try to have one or two days of rest each week (Saturday and Sunday).

Although, Sunday afternoons tend to be a good day to do strength training. If I do any kind of cardio on Saturday, it would be riding my bike. That is if I can't get at least two afternoons of cycling in during the week. It varies from week to week, but for the most part I try to have a day or two of rest. A lot depends on what my schedule allows me to do. Sometimes, I enjoy an extra workout (doesn't always feel like a workout because I am enjoying it - i.e., hiking).

I was just curious if anyone takes either one rest day or days off of exercising.
For example if you were to work out Monday through Friday, take some rest days during the weekend.
Or workout Monday through Saturday and rest on Sunday.

I'm wondering if I'm the only one that does this, or if it's preferred to work out everyday.
