Yes, I prefer to not have anyone around when I do exercise DVDs! I feel self conscious otherwise.

10/18/12 2:18 P

OMG I won't do it in front of anyone but the dog and even the dog doesn't want to watch all this fat jiggle around!!

10/18/12 2:01 P

I kind of do unless other people are working out with me. It's just a focus thing...

I do prefer privacy.. although I will with my husband in the room. Prefer to be alone.. as the husband likes to make fun of the DVD. Or me. LOL.

For me exercising is a very personal thing. Even when I jog outside - I don't like it if someone accompanies me. i like to do it alone.

Oh man! I thought I was crazy for making people not watch me doing cardio tapes! LOL

This makes me feel so much better! I usually only do them during the day when I'm by myself and my partner is at work, and if it's a non-work day, then I just stick to my walking!

I definitely do at home. I don't like when my family is watching me because they are very judgmental of my weight.

I do need my privacy because I don't like if I am doing my strength exercise and someone is watching matter who that is.

I need my privacy. Luckily I can just shut my bedroom door when I do my workouts.

I need privacy unless someone is doing the DVD with me. I feel awkward when I am doing an exercise DVD by myself and my husband is sitting in the living room or kitchen- I feel like I have an audience! I do not feel the same way about the gym or running though. It must be the "I'm the only one doing this so I feel weird feeling..."

10/16/12 4:18 P

I assumed I'd be more self conscious at a gym but it turns out I'm much more uncomfortable exercising at home--it just feel strange and not very condusive to doing a good job with the routines. I guess I need the peer pressure.

I need quasi-privacy. I work out to Pilates DVDs in my den, which doesn't have a door but is separate from (and about 15 feet away from my husband's office). He respects my privacy, so I know that he wouldn't come out and stare at me, or chat (or laugh) - although he might walk by en route to the kitchen.

it depends. DH knows that I'd rather he not be in the living room when I'm doing a DVD, so he'll get his coffee & go back to the bedroom. I don't mind so much with Pilates (I usually have something else on the TV while I'm doing Pilates), so DH will sit and watch whatever I'm watching while he drinks his coffee. If I'm doing a cardio type workout, no way do I want anybody watching! Working out with another person is fine, but I do not want an audience.

part of that is because XH would sit on the sofa and critique my workout. Bugged the bejesus outta me!

I love my Leslie Sansone DVD, however I will ONLY walk to it when I'm alone in the apartment. If not then I tend to trip and be a lot more self conscious - especially about how much I'm sweating! (The other day I made my SO go to the store just so I could work out to it!) emoticon Mostly though I have only been using my DVD on bad weather days, which is nice because I rarely get the apartment to myself, and I feel horrible on days I don't get in fitness time.

Definitely like my privacy while working out, mainly because the three men in my life (husband and two adolescent sons) are all coach potatoes and would only make fun of me for working myself to a stupor every time!

Seriously though, I do only workout in the very early mornings when they are all still in bed, and also mid-afternoon while husband is at work and boys are at college.

I couldn't work out with them even in the house, let alone in the same room!

10/15/12 7:38 P

Yes! I made my husband leave the room the other day while I did Tae Bo. He can do it with me, but he can't sit and watch. Just makes me nervous, I guess.

10/15/12 2:05 P

I go to group workout classes so I'm far more self concious doing ridculous things there that having some watch me do a workout video really isn't a big deal

No, I could care less if anyone watches me while I exercise. In fact, I get frustrated and annoyed that they are not doing it, nor doing it with me. NO ONE in my circle exercise regularly and I think that is just plain stupid. The ones not exercising have really missed out on a lot. I have been teased, laughed at, made fun of, and on rare occasions told, "I hate people like you who exercise." I figure they are jealous.

I value my own opinion when it comes to fitness more than that of someone watching me, especially if they make any negative comments, and I think I have heard them all. I am doing something positive for myself and others not exercising are really missing out on a lot. I can't think of anything someone can tell me to get me to quit doing it. When pregnant 35 years ago, the doctor told me not to jog and bike. I jogged through 6 months, and biked through 7 months. I was jogging a week after the baby was born. I swam up through 6 hours before she was born.

Remember, only 30% of American adults exericse 30 minutes x 4 times a week. Those of us who do it daily are in the top 30%! Most people won't do it!

It helps me remember why I am exercising (its a long list) to offset what anyone tells me not to do it. I have had arguments with my husband, parents, and siblings on this topic and would go out and just do it anyway. If they don't like my exercising, they can stuff it. After 40 years of jogging, I am the one in the family without health problems preventable with exercise.

Much to my surprise, I had high cholesterol at age 50, even though I had jogged for four decades. I increased the jogging, took fat out of my diet and got it down from 310 to 240. I am still working on it. But I had no medications for it!

No, I don't care if someone watches me exercise. I don't care what they think about it knowing that most Americans are ignorant about their own health care. I care that I don't end up in the nursing home when I am 80 years old because there are many activities I still want to do and have not yet had time or money for them.

I want to lead the aerobics and exercise classes in my retirement home at age 80!!!

Yes, definitely. I'm awkward and uncoordinated, and I don't want anyone laughing at (or with) me when I fall off my exercise ball!

I like to have privacy. My husband is really good about being respectful of that; he'll pass by the living room and smile or make a nice comment, but he knows I don't like it if he hangs around and watches.

My ex-husband used to not only watch me workout, he would criticize me if I wasn't doing exactly what the person on the DVD was doing, or if I were not doing it as fast. He wouldn't get off his butt to try it, but he was full of advice about what I "should have" been doing. For that, and millions of other reasons, I am so thankful he is now my EX! emoticon

That is a large reason why DVDs do not work for me. I cannot stand being watched. My husband tries to be respectful, but he'll giggle once in a while and that sets me off with selfconsciousness. My son wants to do it with me, which is fine, but he gets overzealous and starts bouncing off me and we end up playing rather than doing the workout (which is fine and fun and silly, but I eventually feel bad I did not do the video...which makes no sense since it's still exercise). My cats are sabotagers. They typically get curious, then want to lay right underneath me (the other day I was doing a plank and the male curled up beneath my belly so if my muscles gave, I would have smushed him).

Any time I exercise, I want to be entirely alone without interruption or distraction.

I'd rather not have someone in the room just watching me exercise. If they are doing something and happen to be nearby it is fine.

I am far more self consciousness at the gym. Plus, I'm not a talker while I work out.

When I was staying with my parents waiting to settle on my condo, I had to sign up for a gym membership to get my workout in....guys wanted to talk and follow me around. I'm just a private person....and I had an hour to get my workout in and get out and I just wanted to be left a lone.

Needless to say....I was happy to be home with my workouts.

I walk once in a while and live right off a major highway, that dumps onto a major road. I hate walked on the sidewalk here....people can just be so childish.

Give me my video's and I'll happily workout at home.

I love having friends and a support system, though and that's why I'm enjoying coming to spark.

One of the main reasons I've never been able to do exercise DVDs is the self-consciousness factor! I work out at a gym and actually don't like being the only one there! I feel more motivated when there are other people working out around me. But no way could I do a DVD in front of someone else!! Who knows why... maybe because everyone at the gym is also working out so it doesn't feel strange.

It used to bother me and I'd love to have a workout room....but right now, i live in a one bedroom condo....and all my stuff is in the living. Luckily, my husband for the most part isn't home or is sleeping when I workout,...but, there are times that I do have to workout when he is home....and he usually try's to not be in the same room but in a place as small as ours...we just make do....

I think it may take some getting used to, but it doesn't bother me as I need to workout so it's either suck it up and do your workout or try to find another time to workout. To me the better option is just to do it.

A "Just Wondering" question. Personally I can be pretty spastic if anyone other than the dog watches me workout. How do you feel?
