I used to think of it as making mistakes and I would stress myself out so much if I wasn't perfect. If I went over my calories for a day I would feel really guilty so wouldn't track (to try to avoid it) and I would too often just throw all my efforts away so I would have to start over.

I finally realized that thinking of going over one day as "making mistakes" just sets me up for failure. This is a complete lifestyle change, so there are no mistakes. Only choices. And my choices mean that I don't (not can't) eat all the junk I come across whenever I come across it because I know it isn't good for me and my body and mind don't want to live that way. However, if I choose to eat a big piece of cake at my niece's wedding next weekend then that's a choice I will make and it won't be a big deal. I will still eat 90-95% healthy all day so I'm not going to stress about it even if it does bring me over my calories for a day. I won't be picking myself back up or starting over again the next day either. I'll simply eat well like I always do, minus the cake. And it will probably be another month or so before I make such a choice again.

My overall goal is to live a life of 90/10 healthy/whatever. If that occasionally slips into the 80/20 range that's OK. I all balances out in the end.

Absolutely. I used to be an "all or nothing" person, but that led to me giving up instead of shaking it off and moving on when I made a mistake. I have lost 19 pounds since giving up my "all or nothing" attitude in January.

I don't get too down if I make mistakes because I know they are going to happen from time to time.

I don't think of them as mistakes. Just did not reach my goal for the day and track it to see how much the pleasure of eating or drinking too much cost me. Then start again.

Who makes mistakes? Can you really make a mistake in your lifestyle? Isn't that what this is about is to be able to make adjustments where needed? I don't make mistakes. I just find different ways to get to my goal.

Yes of course.....I fall off the wagon like everyone else on those special occasions like those foiled covered solid chocolate little eggs and I do buy them on sale after is what it is, I go through it every year and have accepted that for 2 weeks, it is a chocolate fest and the working out doubles.....

No one is perfect unless your definition of perfect allows you to be human! We are not machines and if your familiar with any machine, you'll know that they are not always perfect either! Building wiggle room into your definition of what it means to succeed will allow you to gain victory over the "Defeat Syndrome!" That feeling that can overwhelm some people and make them feel like a failure if they are not perfect! There are many built in methods that can be acceptable in a working fitness program! Defining a calorie range for each day will allow you not have to hit a specific number each day just as with the Spark Diet! But if you go over your high limit one day, consider the idea that you have a weekly limit as well. So if you barely break the bottom limit for a few days, you can easily recover a single over the top day! This is only one example. Exercising schedules can work the same way! Even the deadline for meeting a goal can be moved if it absolutely necessary! But don't let this idea become a habit for allowing yourself to never staying in your target range! The idea here is to allow for occasional misses! Not open the door to never ending failure that will not allow you to ever get to your destination!
