Depends on the site. Usually yes.

For the most part, I do. The way the world is going, we're not going to have much choice but to buy things online.

I read an article recently that said in about 10 years (or sooner) many brick-and-mortar stores are going to go away and we will buy things online or at kiosks.

There goes human interaction. Sad.

I have trouble with anything not personally given in cash, but we don't live in that age anymore.

I have a paypal account. A lot of places online will let you use that. You can choose the account it comes out of. I have a special account that I will transfer money into when I use the paypal. That way it sits there and I don't accidentally spend it in my other account.

I have even had problems with my electric company having my credit card/bank card on file. Its convienient but has been a problem.

I feel safer using a credit card online than a check.

I used a check once to buy an item from a catalog. They never delivered the item and I will spare you the odesey of the months and months of going back and forth with the company to get a refund.

I finally got the refund. They told me that shipping would also be refunded, since the item never shipped. When I got the check it was less S&H. They included a note that said we don't refund shipping when the item has been returned and told me that if I didn't like that, tough patootie.

I ordered from a different company. This time I used a CC. The company didn't deliver what I ordered. After two weeks of going back and forth. They would not answer my calls and ignored my emails. So one month after I place the order. I call my CC and explain what was going on and how I tried to resolve the problem. The money was back in my account shortly after the phone call. Including Shipping and Handling.

I will never pay with a check online again. I do *NOT* use my debit card online.

Yes I do, I had a credit card company call me once to see if I tried charging $700.00 to a store a few towns away from me. I said no, so they said someone tried to and we had to close card and start new account. It had nothing to do with me using that card for online shopping, because that is the one card I did not use online. So online shopping is as safe as anywhere else. I am happy to say I am credit card free these days, and that feels almost as good as skinny.

I agree about the credit card debt issue - would like to NOT have a credit card at all. But, we use ours to gain airline miles & we pay it off each month. There are sites out there (but be picky) who allow you to order from a bank account instead of credit card... OR I think that PayPal has options to pay by bank account or even a pay Later (by check or money order...) option.

I have one credit card that I use for only online purchases so that if something goes wrong it doesn't impact the cards I normally use.

I am very careful with my card and info. I worry when I even use the card in the store.

Yes. Only go to secure sites. CC are safer then Debit cards.

I have a "debit" credit card.
That means, I have to put the money on it before I can spend it.
I cannot overspend or go into debt with that one, because if the money is not there; I cannot use it.

It's the only credit card I have, except one from my employer to be used exclusively for work-related travel (which is rare).

ETA: Also, I don't leave much money on that card, so I know I have to go to the bank and deposit money to it, if I need to use it online, as there are no other accounts attached to it.

I don't do it often for the reason most of us fear using it. I make sure it is a reputable company. I haven't had any problems as of yet.

Yes, done it for years. My mom actually had hers stolen when she used it in PERSON at a bookstore. So no matter where you use it, it can always be stolen!

As long as it's a website for a company I know and trust and the site is secure, than I feel okay. My husband got sucked into some weight loss pill scam and got screwed but fortunately, the bank caught it and called him. Hopefully, he learned his lesson about "magic" pills AND using untrusted sites. :-)

I feel safe for the most part, but I always make sure the little security symbol is on my browser before I enter any C.C. information. I don't store my information on a website if the site doesn't require it (some do). And if Paypal is an option that's what I use. The less financial information I have to key in the better. I haven't had problems with credit card theft but I have friends who have, so I never assume a site is 100% secure.

I don't like to have credit cards either. I finally broke down and got a prepaid card to use online. I don't keep a high balance on it, around $100 and it costs me $3 month. I never worry about credit card theft, they can only get $100 at the most.

I'm not sure how retail websites are in Malaysia, but online shopping in the US IS very safe. I regularly buy items with my credit card online to save money. Most reputable websites have plenty of security to protect your information. Are they totally safe ? Nothing is totally safe anymore. However, I haven't had any problems shopping online or using my credit card.

Some websites DO offer a payment option for check, but that does mean you have to wait for your item until your check has cleared. There is a lot of check fraud out there. As a result, businesses do have to protect themselves.

Actually, I've had more problems paying with check than I do with credit card. the last time I tried to use a check, it was declined !! Mind you, plenty of funds in my account. Never bounced a check in my life. And yet, the store I wanted to use a check was told by their check verifying company that my check was no good. So, I had to use credit card which went right through. I went to my bank to see if there was a problem. They said nope.

In the US, purchasing with credit card or even a debit card is more common than using a check.

I normally feel safer sending a check or using electronic bank transfer. It's a pity that very few companies accept that mode of payment. It's like they keep forcing you to use your credit card online.

I don't believe in using credit cards, I don't even have one! It's a recipe for debt!
