I'm also on Coumadin after September of 2009. Sadly, I avoid all greens (broccoli, brussel sprouts, spinach) I do eat iceburg lettuce salads. Cranberries are an absolute no/no on Coumadin. Cranberries have anti-clotting properties which increases the effect of Coumadin and tendency to bruise. However, I read this is under investigation...good news...I so miss my cranberries! Thank you all for your suggestions. I guess it will be up to me to manually get the vitamin K info I need and analyze the recipes and foods I eat. My INR levels have been all over the board this last year & 1/2. Two year prior it was very stable. I do make sure to be consistent regarding Vitamin K intake. With coumadin the key thing is to eat the same amount every day! So if normally you have two servings a day one being broccoli with dinner and another being a salad made of spinach at lunch, stick with 2 servings. Know what I mean? So the foods that are the biggest sources are dark greens like spinach, kale, brussel sprouts, broccoli etc.. Usually patients do fine by tracking servings. Since vitamin K is NOT a mandatory nutrient that has to be listed on a food label, it is difficult to track in the manner that you desire. Most folks have to track vitamin K manually, using a food chart that has been provided by the drug company or their doctor. This link may help. If you need more information, consult your doctor. Hi, I am taking Coumadin and must track my vitamin K. I don't see a way to track it in the Nutrition Tracker. Am I missing it? Are there any plans to add it?
Also, have to keep sodium down to 1500 mg or less. I can track this so that's ok. What I am also having a really hard time finding recipes that show both the vitamin K and sodium levels. I just don't have the time to separate all the components in a recipe and calc the Vitamin K and then re-calc to fit the recipe.
I really need a way to track vitamin K on the nutrition tracker! Does anyone else have this issue? If so, would you share your solutions. Thanks, Mary
