I agree- I do my elliptical maybe 2-3 times a week. Other days, I'm going outside to do a 3-4 mile walk/jog. I'm trying to enjoy the cooler weather while I can b/c in NC, it gets hot and humid in the summer. Like the others said, mix it up by doing other forms of cardio and strength-training.
However, to avoid boredom, plateau, and repetitive motion injury, I would encourage you to experiment with new forms of cardio, too. Walking, jogging, taking an aerobics/dance class, swimming, cycling.... These are all great forms of cardio and will help you get fit, burn fat.
Our bodies are smart and quickly adapt to exercise if we do the same thing every day. If we do different things, though, the body stays "surprised" and keeps on working hard.

No, there's no reason you can't use your elliptical every day if you wanted. It's true, a person should be active in some way every day. My concern is that doing the elliptical every day is going to get really boring. Mix up your routine so that your muscles get a challenge. Don't do the same thing over and over. our bodies thrive on change. So, try a DVD a couple times a week. take a walk outside. take a class at your gym. Do some strength training.
That's when a person needs to take a day off between workouts i.e. strength training. Do you do any ? If not, I'm going to encourage you to start with a day. increase your lean muscle. Muscle burns fat. the more lean muscle you carry, the more efficient your body will be at burning fat.
A person should do some cardio AND some strength training. Bonus points for flexibility and balance training if you can fit it in.

I enjoy using my elliptical trainer everyday, but my friend said I should only use it every other day. Isn't this a cardio and able to use it everyday?
