Thanks BRITTTURTLE. I think Dragonchilde and the others pegged it with too little sleep and probably a mix of hormones. My breakfasts are usually good at filling me up, just didn't seem to do it today.

The trick is to eat super nutrient dense foods. Lots of times our bodies trigger a hunger response because it is lacking a major nutrient. I like to do apples and peanut butter because it satiates my sweet tooth, gives me some good protein and fat, and I get full. Hope that helps!

There was actually something about this very thing on SparkRadio yesterday. When you lose sleep, your body starts to crave simple carbs... which are fast, easy energy, your body's preferred source. Losing sleep causes cravings, plain and simple! I'm betting dollars to donuts that's your issue... I've been struggling with the same thing this week.

Thank you all for your replies! Looking at the calender, it may be hormonal. Damn those things!

Dragonchilde, my green smoothie consisted of almond milk, spinach, cucumber, kiwi and strawberries - the whole foods, I don't juice as I can't bear to throw that beautiful pulp away. That plus the eggs is usually pretty darn good. Nutrition-wise, I eat both high veggie and generally very diverse, so I'm not worried about that.

You're right, though, I did *not* get enough sleep last night. I'll start paying more attention to that.

When I have that problem, I have to look at the *previous* day for the cause.

Did I get enough sleep?
Did I eat enough to support my activity yesterday?
Did I eat things yesterday that left my body nutritionally short, even though they were filling at the time?

Liquid breakfasts don't do it for me. Even if there's enough protein, there isn't enough fiber, and I need some solid food. Two eggs are nice, but they're so low in calories that they don't do much! When I eat breakfast, if I don't want to be eyeballing the fridge all day, I need meat, some veggies, and lots of protein. I cut calories elsewhere... I need a *big* breakfast!

I have days like that. Sometimes it's hormone related (that time of the month), but other times, I have no idea why it happens. I just try to work through it, maybe have an extra snack that is high in protein and/or fiber to try and help.

Yes, pay attention and take note of what is going on with your body and life. Are you hormonal? That makes a difference. Did you work out more heavily yesterday? I often find that if I do a very hard workout in the evening, then the following day I'm very hungry.

If you are eating healthily and treating your body right, then it will work for you by giving you a cue that it's time to eat, aka hunger. Make sure you're making the most of your calories by eating hearty meals, and it sounds like you are. I wouldn't worry. As long as your meals and snacks aren't empty calories, your body is working the way it's supposed to.

It happens pretty rarely, but there are times when it doesn't seem to matter what I eat, I'm still feeling hungry.

This morning I started out with two eggs and my green smoothie, with is a pretty typical breakfast for me. An hour later I'm at work and starving, so I have my fruit which is usually a morning snack, and then have some tea, and then munch down my protein bar which is usually my afternoon snack, and already I'm eying my lunch and the day is only three hours old!

Anyone else have days or meals where it doesn't seem to matter what you eat, you can't shake that hungry feeling?
