When I have a day like that I might do some cardio but not my normal 5k....maybe not even running. I like to check out spark videos for cardio every now and then.

But as others have said, there is nothing wrong with rest days. In fact I have heard that it is more difficult to get in shape without them because you don't give your body a chance to recover and build the muscle from your exercise.

I am conflicted with this today, too. I have a head cold or something this week for really the first time this season. My nose is runny and my head is pounding. I have moments where I feel okay and could probably get out and run tonight, but I think I need to just take it easy tonight and go to bed early again.

For me my body tells me its going to be a no exercise day. I just feel blah.
This last Monday was one of those days. I knew the moment I woke up that I was not going to the gym. I am an exercise addict for the most part and I know the difference of having a slow day and I make myself go, or a day like Monday where its just not going to happen. Don't over think it and don't feel guilty. Listen to your body. It knows what it needs.

I'm not worried about needing rest - It's as vital as healthy eating is in maintaining my general health. I know it's not PMS, come to think of it - I have felt overwhelmed with my upcoming schedule juggling... perhaps that has to do with it.

Like I said, I was going to exercise: Ran 7k woop woop! Rested, ate properly, and just kept on going!

....Now for a quiet evening. emoticon

My body lets me know when to rest. I just sit in a chair for few minutes and fall asleep for about 15-20. I wake up and ready to go again.

My body PHYSICALLY tells me when I need a rest day, and I try to listen to it. Sometimes my knee will hurt and I realize that I've gone for six days without taking a break and while exercising to the max.

I used to feel guilty about rest days, but now I see the value in them. I think it's important to listen to your body and to give it time to rest and recharge.

Not to be nosy, but are you nearing your menstrual cycle ? Mood swings because of hormone imbalance or PMS can cause a person to want to slack off on their healthy habits. I've had more then my fair share of times when I've just wanted to lay down and take a nap when I know I should be more productive. It happens. It doesn't make you a bad person or an unhealthy one.

In general, it sounds like you've been doing really well these last few weeks. So, don't beat yourself up because you're not perfect. You don't have to be perfect to be healthy.

Also, are you under any unusual stress ? Having problems at work, home, school, family or relationship ? When a person is under stress, your body may signal that it needs rest even if you've been eating right and getting some exercise. Excess stress can break down a person's body.

Mostly, you sound normal. We all have times when we just want to take a day off from our routine. as long as it doesn't happen every day, you'll be fine.

I'm having one of those days, where I'm mentally motivated to exercise, but it's as though my body is saying 'feed me well and rest me'. I'm not sick, nor craving junk or overly tired; been eating right and drinking lots of water; and don't think I've over exerted myself (30-60min exercise/day). This is twice now in the last 8wks or so that I've felt this way.

Does your body speak? What does it say?..... or am I the only one! LOL

emoticon btw, I will do my exercise today regardless.
