Coming to terms with body shape is hard. Look at this picture
. The women all weigh the same amount (150 pounds) but notice how they all have different shapes and sizes even though their number is the same. Learning to accept those things that we can not change like our frame and shape, shoe size or hair type are all important when trying to learn to love ourselves. There is no such thing as an "ideal body weight". During a person's life, one's body weight will go through changes based on their age, whether or not they are pregnant, how much muscle they have, if they get ill or injured...there are a lot of variables!

Also, I have a hard time believing that you are actually seeing flab where you think you are seeing it. I find it much more likely that you are not seeing your body realistically. The height and weight you describe is very slender, and you must be very strong right now with all the activity you describe. I hope you are eating enough to sustain all that activity!

You are concentrating too much on your imperfections. You admit that you are struggling with "disordered body image". Don't focus so much on your body! Work on that "distorted image". Here is an article that you may find helpful:

If this has been an ongoing problem, you might also wish to seek counseling for it. Body image disorders can be dangerous to your mental and physical health, and are not to be taken lightly. Good luck!

Hey guys,

I've been struggling with disordered body image and trying to find my ideal weight for who knows how long. Actually, this summer, I actually made some progress... with losing weight that is. I am 5'5", almost 5'6" and currently weight 128 pounds. I've been doing cardio and weights for almost 9 weeks straight, tabata, spin, circuit training, running, etc. But when I look in the mirror, I still see flab, a lower belly pooch, and inches of love handles. I just feel like no matter how much I try, and what weight I am (maybe even my goal weight of 122), I'll never look fit, just flabby. Is this just my natural body disposition? Should I try to lose more weight? I thought by now I would look toned, but I don't. What more do I have to do?
