Thanks everyone!

So far today I have remained on track. I do notice that I feel a lot more hungry today than in the past, but I am sure it's because of all the drinks (I don't drink at all at home, but when I meet up with friends I tend to have a few - this was the first time I met up with friends after starting with Spark-people in January)

Things I have learned...

1. Having home made eggs and hash browns are a lot less expensive calories/fat wise than having the same thing at a breakfast joint!

2. Alcohol adds a lot of calories, but doesn't fill me up at all.

3. Bar food really doesn't work in my plan.

So... onward! :-)

Great advice here- take it to heart! So you blew a day? That doesn't mean you have blown your whole week, month, year...fill in the blank. Pick yourself up and get back on track- NOW. I suffer greatly from a perfectionistic view on my eating- I blew this meal so I might as well blow the whole day- don't do it! I know it is hard but you have to keep picking yourself back up- this is a journey not a destination!

Coach Nancy is quite correct. There is absolutely no need to beat on yourself because you ate more than you should have. Things like this happen to us all. Now, one thing I will recommend is that you NOT weigh yourself at least for a week. If you get on the scale now, you will see a large jump. Is that because you gained weight ? No, it's because of the physical weight of the food and drinks you had.

It's going to take a couple of days for that food to work its way through your system. So, don't freak out if the scale does go up. it's a temporary fluctuation that will pass in a few days. That's why you shouldn't weigh for at least a week.

So, don't worry, these things happen. You ate the food. You log the food. And as Coach Nancy said, you learn from the experience. Don't starve yourself for the rest of the week and don't kill yourself in the gym trying to remove the calories. All you do is eat a little more mindfully for the rest of the week.

Remember, this isn't a diet. it's a lifestyle change. the changes you're making to your health today, you keep for the rest of your life, not the amount of time it takes to lose. And change takes time.

Be patient with yourself and your body. Everything is going to be fine. You did not derail any of your weight loss efforts.

Use this as a lesson. Sit down and determine what caused you to do this. Was it due to lack of planning? You did not want to be left out?

What is done, is done. I recommend that you stay away from the scale. The scale may be up, but not from a true weight gain, but from your body hanging onto extra fluid. For some people seeing a 3 pound gain on the scale can be devastating.

Hope is not loss. Begin eating healthy today and maybe try getting in a nice walk. Remember this is a journey and not a quick jaunt to get the weight off only to go back to your old ways.

I wish you well!

I was doing well until I went out socially this past Fri/Sat.

Friends came to visit and I met them out on Friday night at a bar. Ate french fries and had some shots and some beer (just for the record: we had a designated driver) that left me with 500 extra calories for the day. Then Saturday ate more bar food and had 3 drinks throughout the night. exceeded my official calorie range by 5000 but considering i usually eat at the bottom end of my calorie range... I went over by 5600 calories.

Afraid of today. Worried that I opened a floodgate and wont be able to get it closed again.
