My neighbor used contact paper to teach her cats to stay off tables and counters. They will typically do it when you leave for the day or at night. She would leave the sticky side up and lay it across the counter, then when the cat jump up in the middle of the night they would freak out and jump right down. After about a week they never jumped on the counter again. I've also been told if you lineup empty pop cans along the edge of the counter the cats wont jump on it. Never tested that theory though.

JANIEWWJD - I'd love to learn the trick that teaches the cats not to get on something, I can't get one cat to stop jumping on the dining room table. She knows she's not supposed to do it because if I catch her, she gets off right away. But given that the cats are home all the time while everyone's working, etc. I know they do whatever they want to while we're gone.

Teach them not to get on the couch. That's what my daughter did with hers.

After some thought, I think they would look stunning on a candy apple red couch!

I have a dark brown micro-suede couch and don't really have an issue with being able to see the fur. Honestly, you have cats, they will always shed so unfortunately you will have clean up after them. I found running a comb through their fur during the primary shedding seasons will greatly reduce the amount of fur on my furniture.

I don't have cats... but I have 2 small dogs. One is white, the other is mostly black with some tan. I have a dark burgundy leather couch-- it is fabulous, doesn't accumulate hair at all like a fabric upholstered couch and it's real quick to wipe it down. Just in case *someone's* paws are a little wet from being outside.

I have a white cat and a gray tabby, right now they are losing their winter fur and shedding like crazy! Believe me, the color of couch make no difference, anyone sitting on them will have cat fur on their clothing! Perhaps a leather or fake leather couch that you can give a quick dusting? I have seen "pet covers" that can be placed on couches that cover the seat, back, and arms. A possible option. Personally, I use a sticky roller and swipe the seat of the couch.

My parents have a dark brown which covers up the hair of the tuxedo, grey and white and white and tiger striped cats and brown chihuahua as well as pretty much anything would. However, then end up covering theirs with tan sheets to keep it cleaner. I used to have a brown textured sofa that covered up pretty much everything fairly well.

Go with what you like. It will be fuzzy no matter what.

I have a black cat and a white and gray tabby and I have a brown sofa. The lighter cat does shed more, but the couch doesn't look covered and I don't vacuum all the time. I also lay out a fleece blanket on the chaise part of the couch and the cats like to sleep there. I think, though, the fabric matters more than the color. I got a couch that the hair doesn't seem to suck onto (faux suede or something seems to attract cat hair) and that doesn't show claw marks. I wish I knew what it was called, but it feels like a softer corduroy. I'd say to look up good fabrics for cat owners.

Get a black couch for black cat & a white couch for the white cat. Just tell them not to sit on each others couch.

My mom had a black cat and a white cat and a black and white tweed couch; it worked pretty well.

People saying to just vacuum seem to not really understand just how much hair a cat can shed;you could literally vacuum twice a day and still have hair. I will suggest though, that regular brushings are probably more productive than vacuuming.

A furry zebra print...or Dalmatian spotted....

Furry so the hair blends in and zebra or spotted so the cats blend in!

we have two gray tabby cats and a red sofa.... I also have an obsessive compulsive boyfriend... We invested in a good vacuum and we should buy stock in a lint roller company... lol

I put a blanket down and they seem to like to lay on that and pretty much stay off of the cushions.

We used slipcovers when we had pets all the time, buy two of them at least, machine washable, in two colors you like, and take it from there. Otherwise, you will be fussing over the pets and the sofa for years to come.

t doesn't matter. You have animals, clean up after them. Vacuum.

I think a medium gray will show less fur but something with a pattern would also help fur to be less noticeable than a solid color would.

You are going to have fur on your fabric sofa even if you clean constantly or use a slipcover.
Microfiber or leather look like good choices for minimizing what would stick.

You could also get a sofa cover, there are some that look OK.

The colors of my cats--and I'm not saying how many of each color--are black, mostly white (with a little black) and calico. I have brown leather sofas (real leather). They were pretty expensive when I bought them about 7 years ago (Ethan Allen), but they still look great. The cats (who are fully clawed) don't scratch them on purpose (they know--and prefer--to use their scratching posts and boxes), although the couches do have a few superficial scratches from back claws from the kitties playing on them (which I sometimes make mostly disappear with a little brown shoe polish, but they eventually show up again). No cat hair sticks to them and, if my husband gets something on them (he's messier than the cats, by far), I just wipe them with a slightly damp cloth. I do fold a blanket over the top of each couch, so the kitties have a comfy place to sleep and I just throw those in the wash every so often. Anyway, I absolutely love the leather and I'll NEVER have cloth couches again.

Disclaimer--if you do have a kitty who likes to scratch on leather, well, that's not going to be good. Microsuede is the fabric they seem to recommend most often for cat owners. I thought about microsuede when I got my couches, but knew my husband would spill stuff on the fabric.
