I cook all of my beans from dried. Soak overnight as pkg. directs. Drain that water and cover with fresh water. Add chunks of onion and fresh garlic and cook according to directions on bag.
When they are done, I can't stay out of them. Love them just the way they are.
One of my favorite meals: Cooked brown rice, black beans, leftover chicken and salsa. Top with cheese and heat. I freeze this in containers measured for meal and eat often.

I make them, with Cumin, garlic powder cilatro, a small can of Green chilles, diced onions, salt and cayanne or red pepper sauce if you like!

there's a black beans recipe in the sparkrecipes that I love with corn, salsa and black beans... it is so easy and delicious! I've made it for potluck events and everyone loves it!

To me it does need a little extra "kick" so a dash or two of cayenne pepper helps... and a touch of salt.

Cook them the same way as pinto beans...
Throw black beans into a pot of water... add garlic... bring to boil... boil for 10 min... turn element off... rest with lid on pot... turn element on again... simmer, cook on low til done!
4-6 hours... til desired doneness!

Are you cooking from dried or using a can? If you're cooking from dry, cook the beans in a 1:2 ratio with water until soft (6-8 hours on low usually). When they're done, mix with Salsa for a wonderful mexican flavored bean dish. I like pace the most, but other salsas work well too as long as they're not too runny and/or the beans don't have too much juice left on them.

Warm Black Beans

1 (16 ounce) can black beans drained
1 small onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, chopped
1 tablespoon chopped fresh cilantro
1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
the juice of one lime
salt to taste

In a medium saucepan, combine onion, and garlic in a tiny bit of olive oil and saute on low for 10 minutes.

Add the beans and stir, cook 5 minutes on low.

Season with cilantro, cayenne, lime juice and salt.
mix well and cook another 10 minutes more then serve.

I'm looking for a good way to cook black beans. Some restaurants have great black beans as a side dish. I have yet to make one that the beans don't taste bland. Any suggestions? Thanks.
