The soreness you are experiencing is due to microscopic tears in the muscles and as these tears heal, this promotes muscle growth and strength. The best thing to do is to do some light cardio to promote blood flow throughout the body, stay hydrated and if it was a heavy duty class next time try eating a little snack comprised of carbs and protein after the class. If you can, I would avoid taking any analgesics as these may mask the discomfort which could lead to an injury. If you are too sore for class, it's ok to take another day of rest and recovery until your body adapts to your new workout regimen.
I did a new workout class on Tuesday and my muscles are really sore; mostly my thighs (quads?) and the backs of my arms (triceps?). The class meets again tonight and I really want to participate again - but damn my muscles are so sore! I know it's not that I over-did-it ... it's the GOOD kind of sore, but what are some good remedies for this? Is this the kind of thing you would use ice for, or heat? Advil, Aleve, Tylenol?
