I'm so glad the produce dept. sells them in bunches of two or three--even singles now. Check out the reply that lists other high potassium foods. Lots of good alternatives. Enjoy your 1/2 banana, I will. emoticon

Thanks for the info on potassium foods. It is very informative and much appreciated. Even though bananas are my favorite, I wll have some good alternatives now. Don't know why I never looked it up on the internet, I'm constantly telling the kids to "google it." emoticon

The entire banana is 90 calories, so I would hardly call it high calorie. I wouldn't eat the bananas because of how much it spikes my blood sugar, but if it was just about calories, I would cut something else out, and have the banana if I liked them.

I'm a banana lover too but like others, only like them just ripe, no brown spots and yellow only.

ohhh..... bananas!

I'm a banana fanatic, too, alas. Right alongside the other sugary fruits, like pears and apples and melon and plums and grapes and strawberries.... yum! But there's too much sugar in them, and I can't have much.

I'd portion out bananas like you are doing, but I only like them *just* ripe - maybe some light speckles, but not brown parts or soft. So if I can't eat the silly thing right off, I have to toss it because I simply won't eat it when it gets fully ripe. And I'm not allowed breads, so I can't make muffins or banana bread out of them. I just have to limit myself to buying ONE banana now and then and having it as a special treat. The produce department is a major temptation!

I LOVE bananas, too, and USED to eat about 5kg by myself every week, as well as loads of other fruit and veges. I didn't eat a lot of meat and ate very low fat, tho', so fruit/veges were my main food. Of course, guess what the main thing I had to cut right down to lose weight was :-(

I do the same thing with banana. 1/2 a banana sliced thinly is enough for a bowl of oatmeal. The other 1/2 of banana goes into the freezer for another meal. Than I "defrost" the frozen banana by slicing it and cooking it with the oats.

Oatmeal with 1/2 c 2% milk, 1/2 small banana, 1 truvia & coffee 1fbsp coffee mate pumpkin spice, 2 tbsp canned evap milk

I love bananas but they are very high calories. So I slice the slices in half --maybe fourths. Just enough to have some banana in every bite. So good and still getting some potassium!
