Ipod Shuffle. It's small, and it clips onto your shirt (or where ever)Very convenient for working out.

I've used several things. I used to use a Walkman (the original one with cassettes) then the Diskman though it was a little too bulky. I used my Palm Zire for a few years then started to borrow my wife's iPod Nano. Now I use an iPhone. I like this because I have to take my phone to the gym (on call a lot) and this way I don't have to carry an extra gadget; it also pauses my music if I get a call. I tried some bluetooth sterio headphones to go with my iPhone but they just didn't sound good enough for me so I went back to wired earbuds.

Ipod Touch. If i'm on the recumbent bike I'll play games on it to pass the time.

iPod / iPhone with really good, lots of bass, headphones
I have the most recent generation iPod nano (with screen) and I love it for walking/jogging. Of course, I didn't pay for it, it was a corporate gift from someone we do business with. So free is always good!
I have owned a mini iPod, iPod video, and an iPod nano in the past, and I would have to say that I liked the iPod video the best. The mini was fine, but its batteries couldn't hold a charge after a year. My nano was screenless, so I couldn't scroll through to pick a specific song I wanted to hear.
On a side note, man, I haven't thought about the Walkman in years.

Pro: it's tiny and lightweight, but has great, crystal-clear sound. Con: no screen ... if that matters.

If you have a smartphone I think save your money and use that instead of getting an mp3 or iPod.
I have an Android device and there are TONS of apps that are free and great.
Slacker is like Pandora but better. Not only can you enter in a group and have it play similar groups but there are over 150 "radio stations" that you can listen too. The Ad free version is $4.99. I like running to Dance Hits (yea, yea I know, but the music is fast paced with good beats) and Christian Rock - not the soft stuff, but the heart pumping, positive, get up and go kind of songs. If you don't like a song on Slacker you can "ban it" and it will never play that song again. You can also ban artists and it will ban all their songs.
Radiotime is also another great app. This one is free and it streams any radio station in country.
I use an ipod nano when I am out walking and a normal ipod when at home. I use the nano for walking because it is small and can just clip onto my shirt and so I don't need a pocket.
The other great thing about ipods are the podcasts you can download - fantastic things you can download include lots of motivational things, fitness and nutritional information, mediation, relaxation and I even download scifi and fantasy stories to listen to on the bus on the way to work/uni!
an ipod is what i use and it is great. i can customize my play lists to have only fast songs for my tread mill walks or slower ones for the stepper or elliptical. it is very versatile and I can eve download workouts to it.
I just bought a zune hd and I love it!! but for some reason I prefer using my old ipod nano while exercising.. maybe because it's smaller, idk... I recommend both

I love my iPod, you can get an iPod shuffle for 50.00. It is very small and light weight. 1.14"x1.2" and weighs less than 1/2 oz. The nano is a bit bigger, holds more songs and is $149. I have had other mp3 players but none were as good as the iPod. You can find them at Wal-mart, Target as well as at an official Apple store. BTW I loved my old walkman. Good luck.

I think that it depends on what you want it to do. My sister has a Sansa clip. It holds 250 songs and has an fm tuner and that's it. She loves it. Now I have a sansa fuze and it holds 1000 songs, has an fm tuner, plays videos and holds pictures. I also have a philips mp3 player. It holds 900 songs and has an fm tuner and that's it. I love both. I like having one with an fm tuner so if I get tired of my music there is another option. Lots of people like Ipods. Well I am not a fan. I know 3 people who have those products and I have helped them with that. So good luck in your search....
