It is Autism Awareness Day! I encourage all of you who are on the spectrum or raising children on the spectrum to continue to be the brave, amazing people that you are. Those of you that do not deal with this on a daily basis, I encourage you to be accepting, open minded, and above all- kind.
Remember that the kid who is spinning in circles isn't trying to get in your way, he may be trying to reset his nervous system; the kid who doesn't look you in the eye when you talk to him may actually find it difficult to do so; the smart quirky kid that sits by himself at lunch every day may not know how to make friends; and the kid who you think is "too old" to be having temper tantrums in public may be having a sensory meltdown.
Above all, be kind.
And to my little man, once again- I would not change you for the world but I would change the world for you.
