You are right, this stress eater has gained 6 pounds! I see my doc today and hopefully will have a great plan moving forward. Thanks so much for responding to me. I appreciate it.

I know the exercise part is complicated right now, but we can do wonders for our weight with healthy food and working on better nutrition...maybe you can focus on that right now.

Thanks, I looked over the exercises and I can do some of the seated ones, and I am going to try walking tomorrow morning and see how that goes. I love the idea about water exercises and I think the ortho center also has a pool. I hope the doc also sends me to physical therapy soon they should also have some ideas. Thanks so much!

While you are waiting for the doctor to fix you up towards mobility in that shoulder, you might want to check out the resources at

For example, you could probably do all the leg strength training exercises.

I think it will probably be a while before the doctor releases you to do push ups or chin-ups.
What about walking?

And my last offer is what I do: water exercise, water aerobics, aqua zumba, treading water. I can hang in the water without moving anything, So I can pretty much exercise every limb except the one giving me problems in the deep end of the pool. Besides, I love the water. If general vertical floating doesn't come easy, then get one of those waist floaters. It will keep you afloat without use of that shoulder, and allow you to give your legs quite a workout. You can also do twists that tone your core.

Good luck!! Hope you heal quickly!!

So sorry to hear about your shoulder. That's just rotten.

I'm sure the specialist will have good advice, and be supportive of your goals.

Thank you so much for responding, I am going to take your advice and work on my diet. I am a stress eater so have gained a few pounds with this event and you have made me realize this may be a great time to nail down my nutrition, and add the exercise later. Thank you!!

I'm sorry to hear that you've broken your shoulder. If your doctor wants you to lay off any exercise before you see the specialist. listen to them. Any exercise you try puts your shoulder at risk for further injury. If your doctor will let you take a leisurely walk, take a way. that's it.

However, if your doctor doesn't even want you walking, you need to lay off. I know it stinks, but give your shoulder time to heal. As long as you are mindful of what you eat, you will not gain any weight because you can't exercise. When it comes to weight loss or even weight gain, what matters most is what we eat. Good nutrition is what takes the weight off and keeps it off. Exercise is what keeps our bodies fit.

In short, you can't outrun a bad diet with exercise. If you want to lose weight, you need to eat right first. So, do your best to watch your portions and eat right to the best of your ability. And don't cut your calories either. Your body needs those calories to help your shoulder heal.

I know it's going to be hard, so if you need motivation, post on the forums. the spark community will support you when you need it.

So, don't worry ! Do your best to eat right and lay off any exercise until the doctor says it's okay. the longer you rest, the faster you'll heal.

Ouch, now I am not able to exercise until I see a specialist and am losing my motivation. Any ideas for things I can do with this injury?
