I am on Medifast with health coach. So my carb intake is at about 90 to 100 per day. Seems to be okay so far. I dont feel hungry or crave anything. Has anyone else lost weight w/this system?

I usually eat close to the recommended spark level for carbs. I don't know if this is low or not.

Low carb really helped me break my addiction to carbs. I am one of those people who craves carbs. They are like a drug for me: the more I eat, the stronger the cravings become. (And I am insulin resistent.) So I went very low carb for a couple of months6 years ago to break that cycle of craving/binging on carbs/craving.
Once the cravings were well under control, I eased my carbs back up to a moderate level and have maintaine that "slightly low - moderate" carb level for the past 6 years. My recommended range of carbs from the SP program is 150-200 grams per day. I aim for around 125. Yes, I ocassionally have a little more than that ... and I eat a little cake, ice cream, bread, etc. ... but I don't eat nearly as many carbs as I used to.
I find that when I go much over 125 or go for a period of a few days being over 125, the cravings come back. (Those carb cravings are like beasts that break out of their cages that drive me to eat more carbs.) So I go low carb for just a day or two and get them back under control. In just a few days, I can safely go back to my usual 125 level.

The weight always falls off during the beginning of low carb (better called low starch), but remember your brain needs glucose to survive, so you might wind up to be a slim, witch personality gal after awhile. Lifetime is the real issue, and I got tired of not even being allowed to eat a whole piece of fruit or something, that is ridiculous!! And, even Atkins has changed from the way it was in the beginning, too, because they have seen the light. Semi starving always does work well, I grant you that. I promise you won't be feeling so groovy after several weeks on it, though, mood wise, especially. Eating LESS just rubs us the wrong way, sorry to say, and it keeps this billion dollar diet business going strong. It's a puzzle I've yet to solve for myself.

My mother lost 50 pounds on Atkins. Then it stopped working and she put 70 pounds back on.
It's best to eat a balanced diet and get plenty of exercise if you want to see long-term results.
I did low carb once. It worked okay for awhile, maybe 6 months. And then it did no good. I felt like crap and I felt stupid because I wasn't getting enough carbs for my brain. I will never, ever do that again. I also don't have any blood sugar issue, hypoglycemia, diabetes, pre-diabetes, insulin issues, etc. that would warrant a low carb lifestyle.
I think it can work for some people but I didn't care for it. I also run races and enjoy exercise, so I know a balanced lifestyle with reasonable carbs (45%-55%) is good for me.

a) it's far too restrictive and I could not see myself maintaining that sort of a diet as a lifestyle.
b) any extra *loss* over the calorie deficit would be temporary fluid loss because carbs retain more fluid than other macros. Just like when you increase or decrease your sodium intake, you lose/gain fluid. As soon as you start eating more carbs again, you'd gain it back. I prefer to focus on permanent fat loss.
c) I tried a modified version of low carb, called carb-cycling. Where you do 30% at 3 days and 1 day at 50%. It destroyed me; I was tired all the time, my workouts suffered greatly, I could barely walk in the evening (tired, heavy leg-syndrome), I was miserable/irritable and in a brain fog. Lack of energy = less calories burned. I just wound up binging on carbs, I felt so deprived. It took me 3 weeks of returning to my moderate carb diet to regain my former self.
d) The long-term effects of the low carb diet, as it stands are unknown. There are so many conflicting studies that I'd rather not gamble with my body. In fact, most research indicates negative health effects of a high fat, high protein diet. I feel with the middle of the road approach, you can never go wrong. Moderation is my key to healthy living.
I agree that our societies have a seriously bad relationship with added sugar and heavily refined carbs but it seems there are many people who black list all carbs because of it. Just like *all* fat isn't bad for you and has been found that fat has a very important role for the human body, so do carbs.
I prefer to limit my intake of added sugar/refined carbs but carbs such as veg, fruit, legumes/lentils, whole grains and dairy play a very important role in my diet and I see no reason to limit my intake of those foods. Since I choose those foods over sweets and refined carbs my carb intake naturally falls around 40-45% which is the perfect balance for me where I feel energized and not deprived.

Yes, it's the only way that I seem to be successful. I eat about 2 cups non starchy raw veggies, and about 1 cup cooked non starchy veggies, Protein at B, L, S. and a snack, like nuts or MIM with cream cheese in the evening. I lost over 100lbs doing Atkins, so I'm convinced it can work long term. Dangers of Atkins, if you are medication, or have a health condition check with a doctor. Most likely any meds for diabetes, HBP, possibly a few other conditions may need to be reduced or stopped at some point. Also, if you start to eat more carbs (especially highly processed), you will likely crave more carbs, so stay within your OWL. Hope the tips help!

While I don't follow Atkins, I do eat a low carb diet. My diet consists of lean meats and other low fat proteins, fruits and veggies and whole grain carbs.
My carbs are an what is in the fruits and veggies, quinoa, whole grain bread (1 slice a day on average) oatmeal etc. I very rarely eat highly processed carbs.
So a typical day would be a protein shake and or a bowl of quinoa for breakfast. Non fat yogurt for snack. Green salad with chicken and an olive oil vinaigrette for lunch. Meat and veggies for dinner. Cheese and whole grain crackers for dessert with an apple or grapes. More fruit and veggies for snacking.
I did try a low carb when I was younger, and I did lose weight on it. I think I lost around 35 pounds, however, it just wasn't a lifestyle I could stay with for the long hall. I tried slowly incorporating carbs into my diet and ended up gaining back all the weight I had lost, and then some. The low carb diet made me crazy cranky and I constantly felt drained of all my energy. I am glad to hear that it is working so well for you!! No. I tried Atkins about 10 years ago and lost weight - and put it all back on plus more afterwards. This time I'm looking for a long term lifestyle change and Atkins can't possibly provide that.

no way! just had a friend have to have her gall bladder out and she had been on Atkins for years and her doctor said it might have caused her problems..too much fat. I think low carb is okay but no carbs is very bad.
I'm pretty much doing low carb for the last 8 days, and so far I'm not hungry, feel great, and have lost 7 pounds. I have right at 40 total to lose. Has anyone else had these results with low carb? At this rate, I dont think I'll have to be on it for long, and yes, I do plan to add in more veggies along the way. Happy Labor Day weekend, ya'll!
