I use the ground flax seeds in just about anything I bake and use them in place of eggs or oil in baked goods or waffles or whatever. I also use flaxseed oil in my smoothies or on oatmeal or something instead of butter.

Flax seeds are definitely more beneficial when they are ground, so don't worry about eating them whole. I don't find the taste to be bad, but I don't just eat the flax seed by itself.

I always add some to the mix when I make pancakes, waffles, muffins and even cookies. It may add a bit of a nutty taste, and you may have to play with the amounts, so it is not too overwhelming.

My favorite thing to do is add a tablespoon to cereal. I barely notice it is there. I also really like it in oatmeal. I add the flax seed before cooking, and then sweeten it with a little bit of honey or sugar.

I have never tried it, but I have seen recipes for smoothies that call for flax seed. That might be worth trying too.

I grind some up in my coffee grinder and add the grounded flax seeds to my yogurt or fruit, etc. I swear that ground they taste like ground nuts - almonds or something. i like the taste.

I hear that ground they end up losing nutrients or potency or something like that. So, I only grind the amount I am eating that morning or day and dont buy the ground stuff.

Yuck! Do you eat them alone? Ew!

1 - Make sure they are ground/milled flax seeds, not whole. Your body can't digest whole flax seeds.

2- Put them in things, like pancake batter, yogurt, peanut butter, cake mix, and smoothies.

I've never had the roasted ones so I don't exactly know what to suggest.

But for the raw ones, I'll grind them and add them to smoothies, or I'll soak them and use them as a binder in foods in place of egg, so for instance making home-made vegi burgers. Or I'll mix the soaked flaxseeds with avocado and make them into tortillas.

Next time you might try chia seeds - they don't have to be soaked or ground, and I understand they're a lot more palatable. Just get the food-grade ones, not the ones that come with the Chia Pets!

For more fiber, try more whole grains, whole fruits and vegetables.

I decided to try adding flax seeds to my diet, as I am lacking in fiber and have trouble swallowing those large fiber pills.

Problem is, they taste nasty! I bought a bag of them alread roasted ready to eat. Ugh. Gross.

I don't want to give up on them yet. I ground up 3 tbsp and added it to my whole wheat pancake mix, plus some raspberries, and a whole mess of splenda to cover up the taste. Luckily, that worked. But I want to eat them with other foods!

I was thinking about spraying them w/oil and adding seasoning. Does anyone have any suggestions? emoticon
