Sounds just like my 10 y/o. Go to the doctor and research ODD - Oppositional Defiant Disorder. Yes, it's real, and yes, it's just like it sounds. They LOVE to pick fights. There's no medication for it, but it's all behavior modification. They are not easy kids to deal with, but if you learn the best way to deal with your son's personality, it will be tolerable.

It sounds like my 9yo son. I would recommend seeing a counselor. We saw a private psychologist a couple years ago, and my son didn't mesh with him, so we stopped going and the angry episodes continued and started to affect him in school. It was recommended by the school guidance counselor to call the town and use their services. They have social services that are free to us. We visit weekly for one hour with a psychologist who is also a professor at a local university. He's excellent with my son, and we are able to go into sessions as things come up- last week my son decided he would bring his 10yo sister into a meeting and they worked some things out through games, role-playing, etc.

My son has swung at teachers when he is angry, and he has told us that he would like to kill himself, so we take his angry behavior very seriously. He's on a behavior plan at school, a plan with his karate master, and he has a consequence/reward system at home. We discovered through this process that he has OCD, which very likely contributes to his frustration, which leads to anger.

A counselor is the best place to start. Good luck!

I second the suggestion for counselling, for your son, and for the rest of the family. And I'm going to also suggest group AND individual counselling for everyone. Sometimes it becomes a never-ending spiral, with someone's action or reaction triggering someone else's reaction, which in turn worsens the original reaction, which then worsens the second...and so on and so on. I have friends who have gotten to the point where their home environment was toxic for everyone involved, and they were all completely lost as to how to get out of the situation they found themselves in. It took outside professional help to get them navigating out of that downward spiral.

Have you taken him to see a counselor? Anger issues don't come from just thin air. Since he is becoming violent, I think it's important to talk to his pediatrician and get a referral for a counselor who can evaluate him, and present treatment options. I think you, too, would benefit from some counseling, because sometimes as a mom it's tough to know what to do.

I need some advice. I have a 9 yr old son who is also the middle child. He seems to have a lot of angry management issues and I am not really sure how to handle him. He constantly fights with both of his siblings, his older sister and his younger brother. He always throws a fit about doing his homework, it is a constant battle. I have completely cleaned his room 4 times and taken away everything and he just does not seem to care. Yesterday he went as far as to hit my husband when he was getting yelled at for something he did. I really don't know what to do for him anymore and emoticon it is affecting the whole family.
