Cycles can fluctuate for a variety of reasons. Depending on when you had your first period, your cycle may just be evening out to its own rhythm. Hormonal birth control can play a role as well.

Some things are genetic. Look at the close females in your life...grandma, mom, older sisters.

Mine starting acting wacky at 33. By 42 or 43 I was in full menopause. I found out that my biological Mom had a hysterectomy at 36 for heavy bleeding.

Your gyn is your best bet for true medical answers.

I would check with your Dr - it is possible that your weight is still a bit too low, and exercise might exacerbate things re not actually eating enough to sustain the extra energy required.

It is best to keep in close touch with your Dr while all this is going on. At your age it is particularly important because of possible long-term effects on your fertility.

Good luck,

Thanks for your response!

I'm only 21 so hopefully not menopause. It's not any medical or thyroid conditions etc. as last time I went to the doctor regarding amenorrhea she said it was due to low body fat and got me tested for all the other options, also and I doubt it's pregnancy but it's worth me taking a test in case.

I'm thinking it might just be irregular because it's only recently come back but I'm not sure if it was supposed to be? I guess I'll wait until next month and if nothing again I'll head back to the doctor.

Hi, AUDREY1992 !!

Excess stress can cause a woman's cycle to go out of whack. And the more you worry about not having your period, the more delayed it can become. You don't mention your age. Are you nearing peri-menopause ? If you're in your late 30s, it's not unusual to start experiencing early signs of menopause such as a missed period.

Also, when a person's weight fluctuates one way or the other, that too can cause a woman's cycle to go off track. There really are a number of different reasons your period could stop for a month. And well, not to get nosy, pregnancy is also a possibility if you happen to have a boyfriend.

Obviously, since we don't know anything about you, we're just taking educated guesses. the best thing to do would be to call your doctor and tell them what you've been experiencing these last few days. It's always best to get the opinion of someone who knows your full medical history. Don't be afraid to give your doctor a call. It will give you some peace of mind.

Try not to worry, but it really is best to err on the side of caution. Call your doctor.

Hi everyone! This is my first post but I've been reading these forums for a long time and has already helped me out a lot.

As a bit of background information, I admit now that I had an eating disorder that drove me down to 40kg at a height of 157cm (5"2), and since then I started bingeing until I ended up at 45kg. In that time, I was running a lot as my main form of exercise. I started losing weight at 52kg and then I lost my period at 44kg.

When I got back to 44kg again, my period returned almost consistently (around every 30 days every month for about 3 months straight). I recently discovered Intuitive Eating, which has stopped my binging and has given me a much healthier attitude towards food.

However, this month I skipped my period again. I don't know if this is normal to skip a month after being consistent for so long and after having a healthier eating plan? I haven't been running any more or less than what I used to and I haven't gained or lost any weight either.

I have been stressed lately after quitting work etc. so maybe this may influence having skipped again this month but I'm just wondering if this happened to anyone else. Once your period came back, did it go away again one month?
