Like they all said it's more about what goes in the mouth as far as fat loss. Weight gain is common if you go all gun-ho to the gym...building muscle and if you are feeling soreness in your muscles know you have some extra water weight trying to heal those muscles. I would say try changing one thing a week...something as simple as keeping track of how many sodas or energy drinks you consume. this could be as easy as saving the pop tabs/caps. and log that once into the nutrition tracker...I would bet you could be consuming 500-1000 extra calories a day and all that sugar will turn to fat-period.
Stretch marks will never go away...think of them as a run in a pair of pantyhose...but they do become much less noticeable when you slim down. Again think of a nylon stocking, before you pull it on you can't always see the run.

I agree with other folks who've replied already, you can't outrun a bad diet with extra exercise. If you want to lose weight and keep it off, you need to be mindful of what you eat. Good nutrition is what takes the weight off and keeps it off. Exercise is what keeps our bodies fit and healthy.

Let's say you can burn more calories via exercise than you take in via eating. what happens when you become injured and can't exercise ? You pack on the weight. Now, if you were to eat right to the best of your ability, if you did get injured, you would not regain any weight. that's because weight loss really IS dependent on what you eat.

You definitely need to consider cutting back on those sodas and energy drinks. Do you know that one can of regular Coke has 220 calories ? That's just one can. Drink more than one can and you see how the calories pack on fast.

Think of it this way, if you were to decrease your intake of Coke by two cans each day for about 9 days. That would give you a one pound loss of fat. This is assuming you don't change anything else.

one pound of fat = 3,500 calories. so, if you were to cut out regular soda or switch to diet, you'd save an insane amount of calories if you drink that much soda or energy drinks.

Also, you have to watch the energy drinks because those things are loaded with way too much caffeine. No one should be drinking the equivalent of an entire pot of coffee in one can. And yes, those energy drinks can have that much caffeine.

There really are simple ways to change your nutrition so that you don't feel deprived and your body does get the nutrients it needs to be healthy.

The best way to lose fat is a combination of good nutrition, cardio and strength training.

Good nutrition means cutting back on pop and energy drinks. I'm the same as you! I've actually struggled with it for years! I'm trying to cut back *again*. But I can tell you that every time I've managed to make it work, I've lost inches and pounds. Stress keeps driving me back to it, but I'm working on that now. :)

Now that I know why I'm drinking pop so much, hopefully this will be the last time I'm cutting down. The way I've been doing it this time (bear in mind, I've only been doing this a week) is that I've switched from bottles to cans. This has reduced my consumption by 40%. I've also limited myself to only one a day. Next week I'm going to pick a day I can't have any at all. The next week it will be two days. Here's hoping it works! I do it this way because I already drink tea AND 8 cups of pure water a day. If you don't you couple definitely try substitutions.

Beyond nutrition is fitness, which is a combination of cardio and strength training. Cardio helps burn the far and strength training not only helps with definition (so you look all the more toned once you lose the fat) but it also help raise your metabolism so less energy is stored as fat.

Good luck!

BAM0827 gave some great advice - start small by cutting back on the soda/energy drinks. Try to replace them with water...if water is too plain, try a flavored (unsweetened!) seltzer like LaCroix and then move into unflavored seltzer, then plain water. Or try flavoring your water with lemon, lime, cucumber, etc. The switch isn't as bad as you think!

Then ease into counting calories. You can do it!

Also keep in mind that when you start exercising, you will gain muscle (which weighs more than fat). Unfortunately you have to combine healthy eating with exercise to see fat loss, but you might notice your clothes fitting better with just the exercise....remember that the scale is only one tool for measuring success. Good luck!

"I'm not big on counting calories and I think I consider myself "addicted" to soda and energy drinks"

Both of those will have to change.

Weight loss is 80% nutrition. If you don't get a handle on your calorie intake, you will never lose weight.

You can't outexercise bad nutrition so I would suggest you work on either counting calories OR your addiction to soda and energy drinks. How about cutting back on the soda/ed? Make a goal (maybe 2 a day at first) and reward yourself. Then ease into the calorie counting. Studies show those who count calories are more likely to lose weight. Although it can be a pain, it's great knowing what is going into your body. If you could cut 500 calories from your food - that's 50 minutes of working extremly hard at the gym (I burn about 10 calories a minute running).

Not sure what to tell you about stretch marks??

So. I joined a gym a little over a month ago. I was really excited to start and all. My first week I gained like 5 pounds, which REALLY put me down. Since then it's been like gained one loss two gained three, etc.

I'm not big on counting calories and I think I consider myself "addicted" to soda and energy drinks. I don't think before I go to grab one..

I haven't been to the gym in about a week. I'm planning to go tonight. Whats THE best way to lose fat. I absolutely hate my body and it just straight up makes me sad :\

ALSO stretch marks?! how can I make those go away also. I'm SO not ready for summer.
