I just bought my first Trek after years of riding on a crappy old Walmart bike! Woo hoo :)

I have a road bike that was made before I was. ;)

Okay, it's not quite THAT old, but the thing's at LEAST 20 years old, and I've replaced the handlebars several times, the tires, and more... it still runs great.

I can't wait for the weather to turn so I can ride again.

Don't have to convince me. emoticon

I will say that if you start out, really enjoy it and plan to do more of it, a good bike -- Trek, Giant, Cannondale, Specialized -- is well worth the investment. Buy from your local bike shop and get one fitted for your body geometry. It makes all the difference in the world. The women specific designs are great for females, and if you're short or tall, typical bikes you find at big box stores won't be comfortable.

If you maintain your bike, they are built to last years -- both of mine are about 10 years old and I've only done maintenance items like chains and tires and tuneups -- and will be the most comfortable ride ever, meaning you'll ride even more. I know they are expensive, but if you prorate it over years of riding enjoyment, it makes sense.

I think getting chased by dogs is pretty much a rite of passage for all cyclists! emoticon

Thanks! I live in the country and I have a mountain bike. when the weather is nice or even just not frigid and not raining or snowing, I ride. I love to ride my bike. I hate running into dogs though. I bought a mace keychain and carry it with me now. emoticon
