my kids tease me that I am a hobbit, because I have "1st breakfast", 2nd breakfast" "1st lunch" "2nd lunch" etc.

I personally do much better eating small amount multiple times a day. but that doesn't work for everybody. and since I'm not cooking for anybody but myself, its easier.

You can split meals in 2, and just eat every 3 hours also. Who says your dinner can't be cooked, split in 2, and the second half microwaved at 10 p.m.?

There is no need to feel forced to do 6 meals.
There is no benefit over eating 3 meals daily.
It really comes down to your life style, snack desire, hunger level, etc.

If you decide to do 6 meals, think of this as 6 "eating episodes".

Three will be smaller meal versions of breakfast, lunch and dinner.
The other 3 will be small (about 100 calorie) healthy snacks.

Some people prefer to eat frequently, and are ok with having 6 "snacks" rather than 3 meals.

I am not one of those people! I would not feel physically or emotionally satisfied by a 200-calorie "meal".... I'd rather wait a little longer between meals and have 300-500 calories on my plate at a time. I am quite OK with going 4-6 hours between meals, so this works for me.

It doesn't really matter if you eat 6 snacks or 3 meals or 2-big-meals-and-2-snacks or small-breakfast-big-dinner or big-dinner-small-breakfast or however you want to arrange your eating. The thing that matters is how much you consume over the course of the day. If you are happy with your current eating patterns, do not feel pressured to change it up. If you are having difficulty managing hunger between meals, you might test out the smaller-meals-more-often idea experimentally - it may feel better for you, it may not. Do what feels right for YOU!

I think its best to pick a meal plan that's conducive with your lifestyle/agenda. May I ask, why do you feel the need to pressure yourself to seek out a mealplan that includes 6 meals?

I was researching a meal plan with 6 smaller meals daily. How am I supposed to eat 6 small meals?! Currently, I do the Spark People plan, and I never eat the snack. How can I make that work for me? Even the Spark People, sometimes I didn't eat everything on the list. How do you know what to cut out, if anything?
