If you are moving, enjoying yourself and not getting hurt, then you are doing the right things!

I really liked swimming when I first was able to start exercising again because it was cool (no sweat), I could easily see my progress/improvement in laps/hour and I felt like I was less likely to get injured in the water than I might be doing higher-impact activities.

If you click on Account Preferences at the top left of your Start page, scroll down and uncheck the box that says "use metric". Save changes and you'll be all set.

I think you may have your ticker miss-set to kg instead of lbs... you say you're 323, but your ticker says 711!

My Polar F6 is the best $115 I ever spent. It gives me an accurate count for calories and heart rate because it takes into consideration weight, age, heart rate, and sex. It also tracks how long and what days I work out so if I forget to log it in spark (which happens a lot, actually) I can just go back to the diary and look there.

I have had my Polar for 5 years now and seriously, I don't exercise without it.

You've come to the right place! SparkPeople really does work if follow their nutritional guidelines and make healthy choices. Weight loss is 80% nutrition and 20% exercise, so be sure to eat a healthy, balanced diet because you can't out-exercise a bad diet. I agree with getting a heart rate monitor. (I swear, every other post I make is encouraging someone to buy a heart rate monitor.) I have the Polar FT4, and I love it. You can get it for around $65 from, and it displays calories burned, heart rate, time and length of your workout.

First of all, good for you for taking control of your health!!!! As far as calorie burns, have you tried finding any comparable exercises in the fitness tracker on sparkpeople?? I've heard heart rate monitors are pretty good at estimating calorie burns as well but they can be kind of expensive. Good luck!

Hello all,

I am Lisa. I am a 26-year-old woman weighing in at 323 pounds. Last year, I signed up for a weight-loss competition weighing in at 354 pounds. I managed to lose 50 pounds over 6 months and was happy to be down to 304 pounds! Well, in June my sister-in-law passed away and then in July we moved cities and since then I have gained back 19 pounds.

This month I got a membership at a local gym and am loving it. For the first time I am loving working out! I attend an aquafit class pretty much every other day or every day if I can swing it. I also started using the NuStep machine. The only problem is I have no idea how many calories I am burning doing these two activities. I like to carefully keep track of my calories in and burned.

I am having trouble finding accurate calories burned resources for someone my size. I need your help! Or even if anyone can offer me some help with exercises I should be doing. In the past month I have lost 5 pounds but am eager to lose many, many more!

If anyone can offer any help I would greatly appreciate it!
