I am also diabetic. I use carbmaster yogurt. I get it from Smiths. I think it has 3 grams of sugar as opposed to 12 grams and above for other yogurts. Not quite as thick or creamy but still an option.

Do select either a lowfat plain yogurt and sweeten yourself with fruit or an artificial sweetener OR use a light yogurt which is usually lowfat and artificially sweetened. 6-8 ounces is usually a portion. Track it in your nutrition tracker and stay within your carb intake recommendations from your doctor or dietitian.

You can have yogurt for any meal or snack. The info below was for better sugar control for someone with gestational diabetes. This probably does not apply to your specific situation. As you work with your diabetes educator, you will learn the "fine tweaking adjustments" that you need

A 6 oz. serving of plain nonfat yogurt contains approximately 103 calories, 366 mg of calcium, 10.5 g of protein, 0.2 g of total saturated fat, and 14 g of sugars. The American Diabetes Association recommends nonfat light fruit yogurt with no added sugars.

The best time of day for a diabetic to consume yogurt is at lunch or dinner. The body has a more difficult time breaking it down first thing in the morning which is when you should be eating things like eggs to boost your protein intake and kick-start your metabolism. At least this is what I had to do when I was an insulin dependent diabetic during pregnancy
