My new roomie gave me a couple of pairs of jeans that were "too big" for her. I hate that. It feels like, "hey, fat girl -- try this tent on." Of course, the jeans were much smaller than the size that I typically wear. And juniors. Like those will fit. Surprise! 2 out of the 3 did fit.

I wait a LONG time before I try on anything that has been too small. My brain sees a bigger me in the mirror than what other people see.

I waited about 2 months to try on pants a size smaller, but that's because my starting clothes weren't really their actual size - they had stretched as I got a little heavier. I'm now fitting into pants I haven't been able to wear in about 3 years. I have 1 pair of jeans that I can get on & done up, but they're still a little too tight to wear for the day. I figure once a month will be good for trying on my smaller clothes. Anything less than that and I don't really think there'll be enough of a change to make a difference.

I just organized my closet tonight - I decided I need those little tags like they have in department stores that separate all the hanging clothes based on sizes...

I've decided I'm going to try on one outfit of each size at least once a month. I even got out my "skinny" jeans (the term "skinny" being when I was my fittest weight, not the actual skinny style) which I probably can only get up to my knees, but I'm going to try them on once a month to remind myself of my goal.

Thanks for this topic - it's one I hadn't thought about until I was cleaning my closet, and this helped me put the plan into action!

Best of luck to all of you searching for and trying to fit back into clothes!

(hint - go to second-hand stores if nothing in your closet fits. You won't feel as guilty about spending money on clothes you don't intend to wear for very long!)

If my weight falls off as planned. I will try on clothes once a month.

This time last year I was about 20 pounds smaller, so I am struggling with finding clothes to wear in my closet. Its depressing.

I put on 20 lbs and grew out of all my pants. It is horrible!! But I refuse to buy more clothes when I have such a fantastic wardrobe already!

I've only been at this a week and lost about 2 lbs, but I think that a month would be a good length of time. It's about 10 lbs, which equates to about a clothing size. So I could probably squeeze into some and almost get myself into most at that point.

For a while, I didn't have any clothes that fit. All my own clothes were too small & I was wearing my guy's clothes. Seriously. He's a foot taller & weighs 100 lbs more than me, but he got rid of some clothes that were too small for him, and I adopted them because I just did NOT want to deal with shopping in stores.

Then I managed to try something new with my nutrition and all of the sudden all my most stubborn weight came off, and I could fit into my own clothes again! Granted, they are my "fat" clothes, but at least they fit & they are mine!

I have some "normal" clothes (as I see myself, but still overweight according to the charts), and some "small" clothes (from when I used to have a "normal" BMI, oh so briefly & so long ago) that are hiding in my closet. The "normal" clothes are with the out of season clothes, so every time the season changes & I switch out my closet, I try them on to see if any fit. I'm kind of procrastinating that right now, hoping that they will fit in a few weeks!

usually every 10 lb or so, or whenever my current clothes look bad. i did go through my closet and organize them, though- i have them put away in a tub organized in stacks- one for 10 lbs more, one for 20.

i just went shopping for some new jeans and was surprised i had to go a size down already!

Im not going to try them until I know and can see I have lost some weight. Otherwise Ill just get totally depressed! Maybe in a month, if I stick to my plans.

umm...never? I keep them in my closet for when I reach my goal.

guess it would depend on the item of clothing.

Unfortunately, I had reached the point of frustration before I decided to kick-start myself into a healthy lifestyle, and had just given away all my "too small" clothing.

So, for me, it would be a matter of having to go to a store and try things on, now.
