I drink Diet Pepsi once in awhile, but water has become my main staple.

I just started Spark on Monday. I used to drink a TON of diet pepsi a day. 64oz minimum each day. I really thought it was going to be tough, but in order to meet my water goal daily (8) cups. But it's not as difficult as I thought. While I am not totally free of diet pepsi, I am only drinking 24zo/day and still keeping my water goal.

Honestly, I don't drink diet sodas very much. An occasional diet Dr. Pepper or diet Cherry Dr. pepper. I am a yucky unsweetened tea drinker. I have never noticed them making me any hungrier, and I don't believe they are more carcinogenic than all the other stuff we come in contact with. I think they are great if you are a soda fanatic and can find a diet one you like.

thanks. Good advice, especially on the journal thing. Sometimes I can't remember what I had for dinner the night before, and I'm only 39, or wait, am I 38???

I don't really drink soda at all. Maybe once a month. I'll drink an energy drink about once ever other week or so, but I mainly stick to water (all day at work), milk (with dinner) and a nice whiskey/scotch neat or with water, beer and wine (whenever the mood strikes).
That's about all I drink.

I'd have to agree. Too many different articles saying different things. The best way to find out how it effects you is to quit drinking diet drinks for a while and see how you feel. Maybe keep a journal so you can accurately remember.

unsweetened tea? Yuuucckkk!!! LOL!! I pretty much do the same thing. I don't overdo on AS, and I drink regular coke about once a week and a good margarita, too. Hey, gotta live a little!LOL!!

I don't view it so much in terms of catastropic health consequences (such as cancer) but more the subtle effects in can have on metabolism and appetite (such as stimulating the insulin cascade due to our CNS sensing "sugar"). I'll drink some diet beverages and sodas, but stick mostly to water, milk, unsweetened tea and such (note: "such" can include a good dry red wine, cold beer or whiskey). About once a week I'll nail some fountain Coke with crushed ice and bask in it's corn syrup induced glory. Gotta put things in perspective. It's the folks that obsess over this stuff that have the most problems balancing it out IMHO.

there probably is mandalore. I guess it's just one of those things where nobody knows 100% if it's safe or not. I know my dad had diabetes and the doc told him he could have stuff sweetened with artificial sugar. He suffered with diabetes. I believe when you are told that you can't have something, it makes you crave it even more. He used to tell me, "Amy, if I knew I was going to die tomorrow, I'd eat a whole coconut cake right now!" God rest his soul.

I am trying to cut out all soda, I have noticed I do have more money, and actually feel better, I couldn't go an hour to 2 hours without one before now I might have one or two a week.
I am not sure about all the stuff you asked about I wonder if there is an article on here some where talking about this subject.

Personally I cut out all sodas and coffees in my daily living and I like it better. Not only am I saving the money but I just feel better. I was drinking Mountain Dew like crazy, I always had a bottle near me all day long and I also liked those cappuccino things for a good wake up. But I realized that I really did not need those things, it was just all in my head. As for the diet stuff, all those artificial sweeteners have to many different studies done to know which ones are the truth but to me they are not natural so I would guess it would not be as good for you. I would rather take less real sugar than the fake stuff...

what do you guys really think about artificial sweetener? I don't really know, to tell you the truth. I have 2 packets of the pink stuff (sweet n low) which is I think saccarin, in my coffee every morning, and I drink diet dr. pepper, which is I think aspartame, with my dinner every night. In terms of health, I don't know. In terms of weight loss, it doesn't stall my weight, or cause cravings.
