when i just got tired of not feeling comfortable in jeans an a t-shirt. i always wanted a jacket on to cover up!
My wake up call occurred when I was viewing a picture of my backside when I was getting an autograph from Jerry Reinsdorf (Owner of Chicago White Sox). Since it was spring training in AZ, I was wearing shorts. I thought the moment would be great to capture on film; turned out that I was never more humiliated than when I reviewed the pictures. That was it...I found out about SP from my co worker and I am so grateful to be here among friends:)
Last year my doctor put me on meds to lower my cholesterol. I began to workout and within 6 months she told me my numbers were normal. I stopped working out regularly and didn't care about what I ate and in January she told me that my numbers were bad again. I have to add that my father has diabetes and has had open heart surgery; my mother died in 2007 at age 63 of congestive heart failure. My grandmother died of a heart attack last December and my sister had a major stroke at age 42 and has been paralyzed and unable to speak for the past 6 years. When I got the call from my doctor in January, I decided that if I truly loved my husband and children then I had to take better care of myself. I can't keep eating unhealthy foods and not exercising. If there's anything I can do to help prevent a stoke or heart attach or premature death, then I need to do that so I won't be a burden to them. My journey began Feb. 2, 2009 and I've lost 17 pounds and I exercise 5 days a week for at least 45 mins each time. It's hard but I beleive my family is worth it.
My size 16 was getting to tight. I felt so uncomfortable

I saw a picture one of my children drew of me. The double chin was shocking to me. Later that day I looked in the mirror. I guess I do have one. It is amazing. I always knew I could not see weigh loss in myself visually, but apparently I can not see gain either. Now I HATE having my picture taken. I am doing it though, to help me keep visual track of my progress.

Every time I went to the doctor they never seemed concerned about my weight. I knew I was gaining every year and I started to get short on breath. It got harder to get in and out of the car and my clothes kept getting smaller. In my mind I know I need to loose about 50 pounds, but I struggle with exercise due to health issues.

I just kept on more and more weight and I caught up with my husband I weighed the same as him!!! NO, time for a change and it's happening I'm down to 144 from 166 in January. Hopefully I'll be down to 120 by August it would be a great birthday present to myself.
I have been going back and forth about trying to lose and being lazy and eating what ever I want and then I took my dog into the vet. She totally called him fat and a little sausage. He needs to lose 5 pounds and so I thought... what a good excuse for both of us to truely make a change for good!

I have always been a large presence. I am over 6 feet tall. I am now noticing that I am also becoming wider. I weigh more now than I did when I was 9 months pregnant with my daughter. That hurts. I also want to wear some of the nicer dance costumes when I compete. I am sick of thinking "I couldn't possibly wear that ..."
My wake up call happened when I was 28 years old. I remember waking up one morning and while walking from my bed to the bathroom I realized I was leaning over, holdin my back, LIKE AN OLD LADY!! I stopped, then and there, stood straight up and said to myself, 'I am too young to be waking up and feeling like an old lady. I need to start exercising everyday.' I got an exercise video that day and started. I've never stopped. In fact, I exercise now more than I ever have in my whole life. I feel great and I look a lot younger than my age. Exercise is great. It causes you to feel great.
I was leaving a buffet restaurant and met an older gentleman going in at the same time. He looked at me and said "well I hope you saved some for the rest of us" I was hurt and humiliated. I decided it was time for a change!
