A couple lessons learned on the hiking date: 1. Check your date's and your own shoes to see if they are up to the challenge. If you are going somewhere with rocky ground that will hurt feet and turn ankles, glorified sandals are not enough.
2. Pack ponchos, even with only a ten percent chance of rain. It can still happen (though it wasn't bad, if it had rained much harder the trip would have been much more difficult)
3. If you are going more than three miles, bring a snack of some kind. It will help keep energy levels up as you go up and down those hills.
4. Bug Spray- trust me, it can get really buggy out there.

I've been teaching the girlfriend tennis recently, and we have a good time together. It is low impact and low pressure. If she hasn't played before, start with shortcourt, and emphasize small steps (i.e. using your feet to make sure you are not hitting off balance, turning your body to aim the shot).

Batting cages! Even if you're fit, your arms & abs will feel it later.
It's fun and brings out the kid in you.

Thanks for the ideas. I like the skating one (we have a ice rink in town, plus roller rink too, we take our kids, but I never think about getting out there just to be with my wife). Thanks again.

A girl's perspective on dates that don't involve unhealthy eating.

1) A hike and picnic. Or bike ride and picnic. You're guaranteed to have healthy food if you prepare and take it. Get one of those backpack style picnic baskets that have all the dishes and cutlery, and another one for the food.

2) Ballroom dancing, as others have suggested. Latin dancing in particular. The dances are upbeat, the music is fun, and it's very strenuous.

3) Playing in a playground. Go on the swings, the slides and all the climbing equipment. See if you can still hang upside down from the backs of your knees. This also works well as a picnic.

4) Skating. I don't know if it's cold enough where you are to have an ice rink, of if you have access to an indoor rink, but skating can be fun. I suppose you could use in-line roller skates if you don't have ice.

Love the amusement park idea, all the running around (great exercise and fun).

The food is terrible there, though. I wish there was a Subway at Disneyland.

Did a full amusement park day this weekend. Would be great, if I hadn't let my dietary parts go so bad.

Love the state part idea, there are 70 in California alone, not to mention county or national parks!

Trip to a local state/national park, long hike, healthy lunch/dinner for picnic.

Biking- currently our family healthy time together, but a great "date deal", too.

Ballroom dancing is also an inspired idea! And a pretty good workout.

My girlfriend suggested ballroom dancing as another great workout.

Now we're talking. Years back we went to the top of the mark in SF, live band. Thanks.

I love biking as a trip. It is easy to pack a healthy picnic to have while you are out enjoying your ride.

I am not sure there is just one go-to date spot since every girl is different, Find out what she likes to do and then decide from there. Just remember it is suppose to be fun and not

I'm trying to come up with new date ideas that don't require an unhealthy breakfast, lunch, dinner, or dessert. So far, I'm thinking of hiking, biking, the beach. What do you guys do?
