If you cook a 4 ounce raw chicken breast, it will cook down to about a 3 ounce cooked portion. Using this ratio; 16 ounces of raw chicken will cook down to about 12 ounces.

I have often wondered if meat weighs less cook or raw...LOL I think it weighs the same...but not sure. I measure meat portions after it has been cooked. I measure veggies and pasta raw and then cook them and use the raw calorie numbers on my food log. But I log everything separate on my food log including separate items for multiple ingredient recipes. At the end of the day I also leave a margin of 150 calories extra for errors, and when using the calorie counter on spark I double check items because I have found big mistakes in members manual entered foods. I don't know if this helped any...but I was going nuts in the beginning and found it was easier to leave a margin of error at the end of the day then trying to kill myself with accuracy.
I have been trying to accurately determine the nutrition information for dishes that I make at home using the recipe calculator. My question is - how do I add meats to a recipe. I have read that the information given when you search is for cooked meat. However, when I make a recipe, I measure the meat raw. For example, if the recipe calls for one pound of chicken breast, I used one pound raw, not cooked. I just want to make sure that I am as accurate as I can be. Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
