I did have that moment with my dress. But don't be too picky with just looking. THE DRESS was one I was just trying on to humor my bridesmaids. When I saw it I didn't love it but they insisted I try it on. Once it was on I knew it was the one and didn't want to take it off!

Nope, not me. I didn't have the OMG this is it--moment. I had the "Ooh is that me?"-moment. I think the idea of OMG is just for some people. As long as you love the look of you in your dress, buy it. If not, just wait the one for you will come a bit later :-) .... Good luck on your search! emoticon

I am typically quite picky and indecisive! But it turned out that the dress I tried on first was "the one" I still tried on a bunch more dresses after but nothing compared to the very first one. It's called the Gatsby by Maggie Sottero. I swear this dress flatters ALL shapes and sizes!! I feel so beautiful in it. I didn't cry or get emotional either, I just based my decision on how I felt in the dress and I was comfortable. This dress also comes in white, ivory and gold -- I went gold. Our wedding is in Oct/12 and on that day we will have been together for 11 years and 6 months! We are semi-eloping with our closest family and friends - can't wait!

I was watching The Oscars and thought about how the walk down the aisle is a girls Red Carpet. When are we ever going to get the chance to do this again? That is why the dress is so important as far as I am concerned.

In life, when I need a dress or cute outfit for an event. It has to be 'the one' so I know I will be like that with my wedding dress.

It doesn't have to be an expensive dress. It does have to be 'the dress' I am picky about all my clothes in that manner

I found "the dress". Although after I bought it, I had second thoughts. Just never sure if instinct and emotion should make you make decisions like that. They're fleeting and your feelings could change. But I'm still happy with it. And I made the decision from a picture before I put it on. Once I did put it on, it looked good on me, so my mind was made up.

I never found the dress for my wedding, I actually did find it after we got married (someone on here posted a link and poof there is was - sighs)

The dress I got married in made me feel like a puff ball, I didn't like it and it just didn't feel right (but it was a gift from Ns sister and mom they had made it for me) but I never was able to find something in such a short period of time (we had 6 months from the day he asked me to the day we agreed to get married on) that it came down to wear what is there and be dun with it (happy or not).

However, that all being said when we do our renewal of vows I'm so getting the dress that I saw (or at least something from that place - though not in white, never liked the white idea to start with, but in a nice forest/emerald green).

I also watch 'Say Yes to the Dress' and I must admit. All the girls that are featured on the show, have a moment where they try on 'the dress' And the casual observer can see it, from the way they carry themselves walking out of the fitting room. The smile and the glow on their faces.

Perhaps some are more sentimental than others? I want that feeling of finding 'the dress' in my price range of course

I had a hard time figuring out what I wanted because I wanted something simple but not "plain". The sales lady kept putting me in ball gowns and it didn't seem right. I ended up with an empire waist which I never even considered because I saw how it made thinner girls look pregnant but somehow flattered me! I didn't cry or anything but the moment I tried it on I knew it was the one. That didn't stop me from watching a million episodes of Say Yes to the Dress

SCTK519 thank you!!! I had pretty much the exact same experience. The only thing that complicated it a bit for me was that I only wanted to get a used or sample dress. I didn't want a brand new gown made for me when there are plenty of gorgeous gowns for sale. I drug the process out for a while because I really liked trying on dresses, they're all so beautiful and I don't have any other occasions where I will get to wear such a fancy dress :) But I kept record of the dresses I liked and eventually picked the one that made the most sense (price was really the limiting factor). There was no emotional 'OMG' moment. My best friend called me a robot :) This is a gorgeous dress and it fits me and our location perfectly.

I don't buy into that whole "one perfect dress" thing that most people do. If I lost this dress in a fire and there was no other one like it, I know I would be able to find another dress just as beautiful that would suit me and our location just as well.

I didn't have that "moment" either. I just went dress shopping last weekend and wasn't really excited about it. I also worried about looking bigger and horrible. BUT like someone said there were a lot of dresses that made me look really good. It was hard to pick, but when I did it wasn't an OMG moment. I was just happy to be done! It was exhausting!

I didn't have that OMG! moment either. I thought that dress shopping would be hard because everything would make me feel bigger and I wouldn't feel as beautiful as I wanted to, but I was wrong. It WAS hard - but because I looked good in so many dresses (not at all what I expected). There are lots of styles to flatter every body.

At Luann - I guess it's all up to the person having it - I've seen people go all out as if it was the 1st time and I've seen people more conservative with a simple ceremony. emoticon

At SCTK519 - Glad to know I'm not the only one then, LOL!!! I'm gonna try one more place this weekend and if not, I'll make decision on what I've already tried. We took pictures as well and I might just go by which looked the best on. I have no idea. emoticon

I did not have that moment with my dress. I Loved my dress, and took a lot of things into consideration like cost, fit, whether it flattered me, alterations, etc. I didn't cry trying on every dress. I took photos in each dress and slept on it and picked the one I thought was best. I didn't want it to feel as impulsive as it seems it's supposed to.

Yea, everyone I know had that "OMG, this is the dress!" moment.

I am surprised though. Tradition here is to NOT have the big white gown for a blessing of marriage.
Is it the norm in your area, or it that what is throwing you off?

Did everyone have that feeling (OMG this is the dress moment) when they tried on their wedding dress? My wedding/blessing of marriage is in October - have been married civilly for 7 years and on our on our 8th Wedding Anniversary we'll be having a church wedding. I started looking for dresses, but I haven't found one that I love. I've liked several, but nothing that Wows me. I sometimes like the bodice of one dress with the skirt of another and on and on. Just wondering how everyone else is doing with their dress shopping.
