I tried Stevia, it leaves a strange taste.- something like a very lite anise- in my mouth for a while.

Stevia is sweet. I use half of what I would normally use with a sweetner. I do like it, though.

I tried all the others, the artificial or processed plant derived sweetners are so sweet it took a while for me to wean away from them..I became so used to the oversweetened taste. I prefer sugar, only not to much..sugar doesn't taste so sweet after being used to the other stuff and can easily use to much.. a teaspoon is about 15 calories, so not to bad.

Stevia Sweetner seems to be a safer alternative. Brand name Truvia. Walmart has their brand of Stevia Great Value Zero Calorie Sweetner made from the Stevia Extract. It is good.

found this on a website

so maybe a LITTLE sugar is o.k. in your coffee??

In the past, when someone was diagnosed with Diabetes, they were told they should not eat sugar. The thinking was that sugar affected blood sugar more than complex carbohydrates (table sugar compared to a slice of bread).

That thinking has shifted. Sugar has no greater effect on blood sugar than complex carbohydrates. All carbohydrates are considered fairly equal as far as affecting blood sugar.

According to the American Diabetes Association, "the bottom line for blood glucose control is to focus on the total amount of carbohydrate you eat - not the source of the carbohydrate."

If sugar is bad and Splenda, Equal and such are also bad. What the heck do you do. Honey doesn't seem to do the job. A lot of concern is written about the long term effect of the newer alternatives and what they will do to your liver. Obliviously, the liver works harder to get alternative stuff out of our bodies and we loose on the metabolism side.
I am diabetic and have controlled it with diet, exercise and good foods.WHAT THE HECK NOW???
