Dear AMETHY-84, I know a 9 pound gain feels like you are losing ground in your goal to be healthy but if you re-frame how you think about it, you can learn from it!
Recently I've lost and gained in rapid succession -- it is never fun to think of your efforts as "two steps forward, one step back" but if it is any comfort, most of us do just that!
I was busy, working and going to school and thanks to that stress, I dropped to 156. That was a year ago. Since then I've had surgery twice (knee replacements) and I'm back up to 170.
Life goes on, the weight will come off again if I work at it, This will happen for you as well. Look at your own history, what was going on during the weight gain? Can you get yourself into a healthy place mentally & emotionally so that all your efforts with diet and exercise have a fighting chance?
Don't beat yourself up! You have a track-record for success and you'll regain your stride if you just stay at it!
It's frustrating, I know. But you have done so much. Keep on with the healthy eating plan, and the workout. Even if it takes a long time to lose the weight, you are doing the right thing to be healthy.

Congratulations on losing 55 pounds and keeping it off for 2.5 years ! What you're experiencing is perfectly normal. It's easy to pack the weight on. It's extremely hard to take it off. While a safe weekly weight loss would be 1-2 pounds for someone who is overweight or obese, the closer a person is to a healthy weight for their height; the harder and longer it takes to lose.
Ask any of our members trying to lose those last 5-10 pounds and they'll tell you it's slow going. So, don't beat yourself up because the weight isn't coming off as fast as you'd like. Keep in mind that if it took say six months to gain the weight, figure at least that much time and more to take it off.
Also, you have to consider if perhaps your original goal weight might have been too difficult for your body to maintain. It may have been too low for your body. Our bodies have a "set" weight. That's the weight it can maintain comfortably without having to work too hard. If you had to watch every single morsel you ate in order to maintain your goal weight, then it was too strict.
Your body might just be more comfortable at the higher weight and there is nothing wrong with that. It doesn't mean you're going to pack all the weight back on. women are tough on themselves. they think they're over weight when they aren't.
Now, if you really do want to take off those 9 pounds and you think you can maintain the lower weight, then you just need to be patient. It's going to take longer to lose those last few pounds. Each time we gain/lose and regain the weight. Our bodies become more efficient at holding on to that weight. So, figure that it's going to take a while to lose if that's what you want to do. there really is no fast way to take the weight off.
Weight loss is a slow steady process that takes time. Mostly, do give yourself credit for keeping most of the weight off. That does say you are doing something right.
I began my weight loss journey about 2 1/2 years ago. I lost a total of 55 pounds. This past year I have gained approximately 9 pounds. I have been buckling down on my workout and eating good plans, but no matter how hard I try, the extra weight I put on will not come off!!! It's very frustrating.
