I'm happy to save the day! My husband and I think salt is an acquired taste. After limiting it for awhile we found that high sodium foods taste too salty to eat. Restaurants and commercial food may use a lot of salt because it's cheaper than flavorful herbs and spices. Many herbs and spices also have healing components. I hope your husband enjoys his low salt culinary adventure as much as we do.

There are lots of options for those who like cooking! Google “no sodium no sugar recipes” for meal ideas. Be careful with Mrs Dash because it contains a lot of potassium. Google “no sodium seasoning recipes” and “no sodium condiment recipes” for a lot of ideas. Here’s a spicy one to get you started! Cajun Seasoning Mix: 4 tsp pepper 2 tsp garlic powder 2 tsp onion powder 2 tsp cayenne pepper 2 tsp paprika
One great Spark feature is the Nutrition Tracker. Your husband can track his food and take reports to his cardiologist for suggestions.
My husband recently had a heart attack and the cardiologist wants him to have no salt or sugar and only minimum polyunsaturated or monosaturated fat. He needs to lose at least 150 lbs but is almost 72 years old, however, still working part-time as a remodeling designer (he stopped the building about 10 years ago). He will be doing cardiac rehab for 3 months which will help. The problem is that he has not found a Mrs. Dash or salt substitute that gives sufficient flavor to the food. He LOVES hot, spicy food and is a sweet-aholic but too many of the spicy things have salt/sodium. Now he's solved the sweet with Splenda or generic derivative. He loves to cook and, in fact, does most of the cooking but he's getting frustrated with this lack of options. Anybody have any suggestions?
