Thank you all for responding!

I sometimes have music for my walks and that does help alot. I also like the idea of calling someone while I"m walking.

I did go on that walk and I felt much better. I even came home and did another workout video to keep my mind off of food.

It also helped my loneliness just reading your replies.
Thank you again!!!

Same here. I don't like being alone. I grew up in a house with six kids. Sometimes I call my sister-in-law during my solo walks. She is about the only one i can talk to on the phone. I am not much of a phone person either (Free mobile to mobile). It helps me feel not so alone while walking.

I personally enjoy working out alone. Before I had access to a gym, I'd walk by myself all the time. I do admit, there were times where I just didn't want to, but then I started thinking of it like this: Time is going to pass anyway. I can spend it sitting on the couch, or I can take that ONE chunk of time, and get outside.

Walking-or any exercise time really, is my personal time for me. I motivate myself, and make plans, and really think about where I am in life. It's a time of reflection. Do you have music you can listen to while you're walking? Sometimes that's the perfect distraction for those negative feelings.

I am very much the same way. I have a really hard time doing ANYTHING by myself, especially exercise. Some tips/tricks that have helped me:

1. Go to an exercise class. I joined 24 hour fitness and go to water aerobics and water zumba almost every day. I'm not bff's with anybody in the classes - most people I don't even know their names. But just the fact that there are other people there, working out, helps.

2. When you walk, listen to a book. I use app on my phone. Music isn't always enough, for me - I like listening to a story.

3. Plan a workout time with someone you know, even if they aren't there in person. I have a friend in another state, and we'll set up a time to workout, and pick workout videos to do. We both do them, at the same time, in our own homes. You could do this with someone here on sparkpeople.

4. Join, and become active, in sparkpeople teams. Having a group to be accountable to, post messages to/from - that's helpful.

5. Add purpose to your walks. Don't just walk to walk - walk to the store, to the post office, whatever.

When I used to go for walks outside (mostly do them in my own house with laundry/groceries, now), I would get lost in my own thoughts - some would be making plans, others day-dreaming. This takes away from the loneliness. Another thing that you can do is to plug your favourite music into your ears - some music with some beat - and then go for a brisk walk keeping in time to the music. Perhaps singing along, too - even if it is only in your head! They are great ways to overcome that loneliness and get your exercise at the same time.

Good luck,

I never look forward to exercise...but I force myself to do it anyway. Afterwards, I always feel better. Just start walking! Force yourself! It's better than sitting there and doing nothing!

I'm the kind of person that loves to be surrounded with company. I've always worked on being okay while alone, its a struggle. Especially now that I'm trying to take control of my emotional and boredom eating.
I'm writing anyway because I am suppose to go on a 30 minute walk everyday. That time of the day is coming up...but i've been so lonely today going on a walk alone seems really depressing and I'm not looking forward to it at all. I don't want to do it but if I don't I'm scared i'll just eat this loneliness....
