when you decide to be active, it makes no sense to maintain a pack to not pay more than $30 for tennis shoes. I had to learn the hard way, that it does make a difference in what type of shoes you are wearing, especially when you are training for a half marathon.

When you are running downhill, you are putting more pressure on your legs than usual—up to ten times your body weight with each step! Relax your legs when running downhill... I sprained my foot with improper technique.

"Waterproof" sunscreens aren't, and a tank top is the wrong thing to wear on an all-day whitewater rafting trip. I learned that many years ago and thought of it this weekend while looking for a lightweight long-sleeved shirt to wear fishing this summer.

Having just fled a wildfire, I've learned to keep the valuables stored in ONE place, preferably at the same level the car is! I just got the most exercise in my LIFE!
It will be much easier to put up a mirror in the basement and put jewelry on there, than to try and gather the items from their various places... It will be easier to keep the important papers down there. It will be easier not to have to shlep up and down 2 flights of stairs in a panic with heavy loads...

Weight loss isn't some fuzzy goal. You have to know how much you want to lose, get a plan in place for eating and exercising and avoiding pitfalls (have a phrase ready to refuse treats that don't fit in your plan) and giving yourself a reasonable time frame in which to achieve that goal. If it isn't written down and posted where you can see it everyday (like on your computer or fridge) you might forget about it. Visuals help!

I've always been told that water is the key to my weight loss success. However, I sometimes have a hard time getting the right amount on a consistent basis. About 3 weeks ago, I probably had about 4 cups of water total during the entire week. The scale that week showed a 4 pound gain and I couldn't understand why. I got up the next morning and made a point of drinking more than enough water throughout the day. By that evening, I had shed the 4 pounds that I had gained. No kidding! I know it was the water, because I normally loose about 2-3 lbs per WEEK (which is the healthy way to do it). I was told that I hadn't been drinking enough water during the previous week to allow my body to naturally do what it needs to do. Now, not only do I eat healthy meals, but I also get my water in. For the last 3 weeks, I have had a healthy and consistent weight loss of 1-3 1bs per week. I'm a believer in WATER!!!

You shouldn't make any life long decisions before the age 25.

You must drink A LOT of water to lose weight.

You must exercise in order to change the shape of your body. Less food will decrease its size but you will just be a smaller version of yourself.

As a single living alone, I have learned that keeping multi-packs of things in the house is a terrible idea because I will always eat more than one.
Keeping refined surgary foods in my house will cause me to eat them, whether I am hungry or not.
Tracking everything and planning ahead and sticking to the plan is the only thing that works.

Sad thing is, I am still learning things the hard way.

I learned that skipping meals doesn't help me lose weight faster. Starving myself to achieve a dress size was only a temporary fix. I usually ended up gaining back all the weight and then some!

1. I took on a new job because the salary almost doubled and suffered a mini stroke and 18 months of not working as I walked off the job after 8 weeks due to high stress and ill treatment towards staff by the owners.

It seems like I'm learning things the hard way A LOT this week.

I've learned that once I miss one workout, it seems to snowball into several missed workouts.

I've also learned when I eat poorly, I notice my energy is low and that I'm no longer "regular". I like being regular.
