I was just talking to a friend about this. I'm in nursing school and finals were this week. I have a 4 year old and a 6 month old. My 4 year old caught something at a play date and both kids are down this week with it...
I think I have gotten four hours of actual sleep this week. My husband attempts to help but he works nights and when he is home the boys want their mommy:). When he's at work my oldest doesn't leave my side, unless of course it's to get in to trouble, lol.
I had to stop the naps during the day for my oldest because he wouldn't go to sleep at a normal time (stay up until 10 or 11) or he would be up several times through the night. He plays outside most of the day or does homework, to keep his mind busy. He crashes by 8 most nights. Now my 6 month old is finally sleeping through the night...thank goodness! I'm hoping his sleep pattern doesn't change as he ages like my oldest did.
Oh, I've been there! I gained 30 pounds when I returned to work due to the constant eating I was doing to stay awake. My son is almost 5 and he still doesn't sleep through the night, but he does go back to sleep easily at this point (this was not always the case). Is your daughter napping during the day? If so, maybe try cutting back on naps or pushing her bed time back a bit? We got rid of nap time when my son was staying awake until 11 PM and still waking up during the night. It did help some. I haven't slept through the night on a consistent basis since my son was born....4 years ago. He used to wake up without fail between 12am to 12:30am and would be back asleep within 10 minutes. That continued until he was about 2.5. In hindsight that was amazing and I don't know what I was complaining about. Then came my daughter. I don't think she's napped more than 30 minutes in her life (she's almost 2). She sleeps through the night about 35% of the time but on the nights she wakes up, well good luck getting her back down. Our record still stands at going to bed at 7, waking up at midnight and staying awake until 1pm the next day. We live in a townhouse too so middle of the night crying needs to be kept to a minimum unless I want noise complaints from the neighbours.
I'm so tired I want to cry. My husband helps but he also works 50+ hours a week and his job involves knives and fire so I'd rather not send him to work sleep deprived. Most of my weight is the result of 3am carb fests to keep myself awake and a whole lot of coffee.
Has anyone else been here? She will eventually sleep, right?
