I was eating over 2000 calories when I was losing. Of course everyone is different but if I go under 1600 calories my body is convinced it is starving and I start binge eating two days later. I'm in maintenance mode now and eat about 3000 calories a day with about 2 hrs. of exercise daily.

Wow, thanks everyone, I was a bit shocked when I saw the jump in calories, so I appreciate the ideas, and would love more if you have them!!

@Dragonchilde, that article was very helpful. Thanks for the encouragement in sharing that this is what you did too!! That made me feel a lot better about it.

have a small handful of almonds or mixed nuts...measure it though. I've also started eating sunflower seeds in the little 1.5 ounce packs. With a cup of coffee or a glass of water, they just 'do the trick' and the fats are healthy. Tweak your eating with small snacks...

I'm right there with you, because I exercise so much they recommended 1600 calories, I just can't eat that much food. I average about 1250 a day. I'm also on my last 10 & haven't budged the scale in 3 months. I started eating protein bars, but will not go over 200 cal a day for one. Also nuts.

That actually sounds about right to me. That's what I was eating when I first started here, and I weighed just about the same as you did! Even now, I'm at 1600-1900.

Sparkpeople actually has an article for this:

It's not as hard as you think!

I agree that 2100 calories seems a bit high. As far as how to get more calories in a healthy way, I use sugar-free oatmeal for breakfast with fruit, soup with added vegetables alot for lunch and I eat alot of vegetables-fresh, steamed and roasted. i have recently started roasting eggplant, mushrooms, zucchini, small red potatoes and red peppers and I love them. I don't do it every night, and this would not apply to you, but I do use the Lean Cuisine bag meals sometimes. Everyone says they are bad for you, but I find them convenient and I like them. emoticon

1750-2100 calories a day to lose weight or to maintain the weight you're at? 2100 seems a bit high for weight loss.

You can add nuts and nut butters for snacks. Healthy and good fats.

So, I just adjusted my fitness, because I'm walking every day, and I'm dancing on the Wii with my daughter 3 days/wk. I haven't put in my hike once per week, but already it's showing that I need to get 1,750-2100 calories/day!! OMGosh, I was barely able to get in what I was getting in before, even using the meal planner as a guide. I already felt like I was eating 2 course meals, and could barely fit that in...

So, does anyone have any tips on how I can get more calories in, and in a healthy way? I try not to do processed foods, and try to do foods in their most natural state, so I'm open to things like bars, but I don't want them to be as natural as possible. Thanks guys!!
