I'm retired, but belong to many organizations which have a potluck meal before the meeting. I have made it a *rule* for myself to only bring foods that are healthy,low calorie & nutritious. That way, if there are any leftovers to bring home,it won't wreck my diet plan. I also tell myself that I am setting a good example,which helps me feel better & stick to my plan. BTW, there usually isn't anything to bring home & I've been asked for the recipes numerous times...which lets me give Spark People & the recipes credit for my 30 lbs weight loss since May. The journey to your weight loss goal is achieved one meal at a time.

I pack very tasty healthy foods in an insulated lunch box and never feel deprived. People look at what I'm eating and say they should do the same. A growing number of co-workers bring their own snacks. Look at your snack table and decide what you love the most. Ask yourself why. There's probably a healthy version of on Sparks or other healthy recipe sites. It's hard for you to believe now, but many people find that after not eating high fat, high calorie foods for awhile they never taste as wonderful as we remember.
I dont avoid workplace parties. There is something quite wonderful about going to them and walking out without eating a thing. Its about how you reframe youself.. and your thinking about them.
its new for me. i am just exploring this part of myself. i used to eat everything at work place parties and throw everything down my throat.. but now, my new leaf has decided that eating all that junk is bad for me... and i stopped...

Nobody can make you eat anything you don't want to eat. You can try allowing yourself a small portion of the best thing. Or visualize the body you want & concentrate on the fact that if you eat all this food you're never going to get there.
Or, you can be the one to start bringing healthier food to the office, or to ask that healthier alternative be supplied at the parties.

I just decided that I was going to turn over a new leaf and finally stop using baby weight as an excuse for my new found poor eating habits. I started off with walking and eating fairly well yesterday (baby steps!) and then I come in to work and there's more junk food waiting for me right outside of my office. There's no way I can avoid this area at all!! It's really hard to muster up the strength to bypass all the things I love the most. If anyone else goes throught this, can you let me know how you manage to overcome such amazing smelling and tasting temptation? Thanks! #HangingOntoTheBandwagon
