This may not be what you want to hear but I advocate NONE. As in do not eat ANY foods that have sugar listed in the ingredients. There is no reason to have added sugar- it means the things you are eating are heavily processed.
That being said, have all the natural sugar you want- in the forms of fresh fruit. Thats enough for anyone, and you can easily reach 24 grams eating fruit but the point is it is natural and the amount of vitamins, nutrients and fibre you consume with the natural sugars offset the imbalance it causes in your system.
The American Heart Assoc suggests that no more than 6-7% of your calories come from "added" sugar (this does not include the natural sugar in milk, yogurt, fruit, etc). This SP article will have the gram and teaspoon amount for several calorie levels.
