I posted on here about 6 weeks ago looking for advice about my plateau.
I won’t go into huge detail (which you can find in my past post here: http://www.sparkpeople.com/myspark/message board.asp?imboard=7&imparent=27944400) but essentially I lost 175 lbs in approximately 14 months and then I hit the dreaded plateau. I joined the gym and still there was no movement on the scale for almost 2 months.
Most of the advice suggested I wasn’t eating enough (between 800-1,000 calories a day) but I was really struggling with the idea of eating more. However, I knew I had to bite the bullet because clearly eating soo little wasn’t working.
I was due to go on vacation and knew that this was probably my opportunity to ‘reset my metabolism’. Prior to my vacation, I built up to eating 1,400 calories a day for about a week. I did see slight weight increase every day in this period – in the region of c. 3 lbs over the week. While difficult to see, I had to believe it would work out in the end.
I then went on vacation and had no access to a scales for 10 days (which was a complete godsend - I know I couldn't have done this if I had access to a scale).
While I was very good on vacation having only an odd glass of wine and no junk, I was eating out twice a day. I generally had one nice meal (main course only) a day and tried to have soup or something similarly light for the other meal.
Although I can’t be 100% accurate, I estimate I ate 1,800 calories a day 80% of the time and between 1,600 and 2,200 for 20% of the time, all in all significantly over my previous amounts.
I got on the scale the morning after my vacation and amazingly, I had lost half a pound. I was ecstatic.
Since then I have been eating 1,400 calories a day and in the last 3 weeks I have lost 10lbs. Very happy girl.
I have a consultation with a Personal Trainer this evening so I’m hoping he can give me more advice about my workout routine since I am new to the gym thing and also more importantly, advice about the correct nutrition for the activities I’m doing.
