I love hummus. I prefer homemade with garlic. However store bought I love the roasted red pepper kind. I tend to get into trouble with it though b/c I eat it with everything, veggies, crackers and I even made a veggie pizza and used it instead of pizza sauce. Hummus is one of those foods that you either like it or you don't. But like many others said if you don't like it, then don't eat it!! :)
I used to make it in a Lebanese restaurant. I am an African American from NC so that job was my first time eating it (early 1980's). I really like it though I'm not that fond of the tubs you can buy in the market. I use chick peas, tahini, lemon juice, olive oil, and salt. If I want to further flavor it I may add garlic, cumin or hot peppers. I like to serve it with pita bread or pita chips and garnish it with a little drizzle of olive oil and some chopped tomatoes. It also tastes good on a grilled chicken sandwich, especially on or in pita bread. I have also made it with a little peanut butter to replace the tahini. Although there are definitely foods that I don't like I managed to gain my weight eating a great variety of foods from around the world. I think there is something to be said for being a bit picky and not liking some things. I'm sure there are plenty of healthy things you do like to eat. If you still want to try it again, go with the ingredients I listed above. It's much better than the super market kind. Good luck!

I've tried a variety from both commercial and home-made. Didn't like pretty much any. Probably the texture / consistency just wasn't for me.

I like hummus but have not found one in the stores that I enjoy. I'll try one of the recipes for it and see if I like it.
I love hummus. I make it at home with different flavors. I take it to the parties too, since it's easy to make and there is always somebody who never tried it before, so they get to try it and other people simply love it. But if you don't like it , don't have to eat it. Try using other beans to make something similar to hummus and you get to name it too.

I have always been a very picky eater but I love hummus. I was over 40 when I first tried it, when a client mom brought her home-made hummus to a pot-luck. It became a big thing: she ended up bringing hummus to every party and an extra container for me to take home! That's my story but I agree with others that if you don't like it, find something else. I could fill the page with things I detest including just about everything other people say they add to make food taste better: ranch dressing, mayo, mustard, ketchup.....
I make homemade hummus and it's awesome! Sometimes with spicy peppers in it, sometimes a little lemon, other times garlic and basil. I love the stuff! Could eat it by the spoonful! I eat it with celery, carrots, crackers or sometimes pretzel sticks.
To each his own... I get that, but I think it is good food!

I too, hate hummus....so I do not eat it...period! I`m with the others, why are you so intent on eating hummus, if you don`t like it?
I know, right? There is NOOO reason to punish yourself while change to healthier foods. Shoot. You can still have something like pizza if you want! I make my kids pizzadillas using whole wheat tortillas and part-skim mozz, and spaghetti sauce. Throw it in the oven or microwave.

Don't force yourself to eat something you hate. You could use a dip with black beans like suggested below or use great northern beans. Or eat veggies with low fat ranch dip. Lots of options, no need to punish yourself!
I'd have to agree with the others on this thread, it sounds like maybe you just don't like Hummus. If you want to give it one more try (and haven't tried this recipe) Food Network has a Pizza Hummus recipe that everyone went crazy over when I made it.
Yyyyeah. If you do not like it, then do not eat it. You can make a dip out of black beans, if you prefer them-a can of black beans, rinsed, garlic, salt, pepper, onion, tomato, and if you like it spicy, some jalapeños. Throw it into a blender with one tablespoon of olive oil, and a tablespoon of lemon or lime juice, and beat into a paste.
It's okay to not like some things. I absolutely refuse to eat liver or other organ meats. They're repulsive to me.
I won't force my kids to eat something that they hate-so why should we force ourselves to eat something that we just find absolutely disgusting.

I'm with you! I absolutely hate the stuff and just refuse to eat it. Funny thing is I love chic peas. If you feel you have to eat it, try makin it yourself.
Morning! If you have tried every flavor then I think it is safe to say that you don't like hummus! And that is okay! I personally love it but understand... There are so many other options out there for healthy eating - try something else!
Why are you so intent on eating it if you don't like it? :) No offense intended at all. I have never tried it because it looks disgusting. My oldest daughter has tried it and liked it. Not sure why though. Sorry I'm no help with what to do with it. She eats it with pita bread or crackers.
So...I have tried every flavor of hummus in the market and still cannot stand it. I feel like I am eating cat food. Does anybody have a recipe or tip to make it palatable? I honestly don't understand those people who "love" it! Blah!
