The first steps are the hardest ones to take, as with any goal you set. When you first learn to read as a child, you struggle over pronouncing the letters that seem so foreign to you... but as you continue to learn and continue to press on, pretty soon reading becomes easier. You are challenging yourself right now, and much like a child first beginning to read, you will stumble here and there. Mistakes will be made. But such is the way of learning and achieving anything. No worthy goal ever set has ever been made without a mistake somewhere along the way.
Don't kick yourself for your mistakes. Just pick yourself back up and get back on track as soon as you can. Don't let one mistake become many; don't write off a whole day because of one binging session, for instance. If you can eat well the rest of the day, that is STILL progress, and you should celebrate it! :) Don't be so hard on yourself!
Exercise can be annoying at first. I hated it. But it tends to grow on you as you keep up with it. As it becomes a habit, you may find yourself needing less motivation. It may even become enjoyable, as it has for me. I like how it makes me feel now. If someone were to have told me at the start of this that I would grow to enjoy exercise, I would have laughed at them because I detested it so much. But that is what happened. I stuck with it and it started to become something I looked forward to instead of dreading. It is pretty common, too. I have seen so many people go from being couch potatoes to doing 10k races. They never would have believed it either, at the start.
Lastly, there are some articles here on SparkPeople about emotional eating that I think might be helpful to you. :) Type "Emotional Eating" into the search bar at the top of the page and click "Search" to find them.
Stick with it! You have it in you. Remember what you're doing this for, and how badly you want it. You think you can't do it? Prove yourself wrong. :) Because you CAN do this.
Welcome to SparkPeople! Motivation can be hard to find...I've found that it changes for me...when I was 183 pounds, I was motivated to get into the 170s...that was motivation enough for me. Now, I'm motivated because I'm close to my goal weight, so that alone excites me and wants me to get up and exercise! When I was more in the middle of my weight loss, and the beginning, I was motivated by rewards I set for myself-- new songs on iTunes, a fitness magazine subscription, new workout gear, etc. The big motivating factor for me was when my family announced a trip to Hawaii 2 years in advance...so I started losing weight 13 months before the trip, because I wanted to look good in pics in Hawaii. So maybe finding a low-term goal (graduation, a friend's wedding, a reunion, vacation, next spring break, a holiday) can motivate you too. There are lots of ways people stay motivated, you just have to take the time to find out what will work for you, where you're at currently. You may try some pretty crazy stuff, but eventually you'll find something that works for you long-term! (I used to put pictures of Jillian Michaels inside my kitchen cabinet doors...that didn't work! haha) Good luck & have fun exploring what SP has to offer!

You've come to the right place. Sparkpeople is THE place for motivation and assistance on all levels. I joined last June and I have never felt better about my journey to better health. My suggestion is to join teams, continue to use all the message boards (like you just did), blog about your journey, read the motivational stories of others with similar challenges, track food and fitness, set small achievable goals to feel successful, and find positive Sparkfriends that will listen and support you as you take on each day. I have always found that I do better when I "stick with the winners" in life. I have learned that if I want what they have, I have to do what they do. God Bless your path to the life you want and deserve. But, don't forget to enjoy it where you are now!! I learned that lesson the hard way. I wasted too many moments thinking I "would be happy when............." ! Peace, Leslie

Hello, my name is Kaitlyn. I am 20 years old and I weigh 209 pounds. I really want and need to lose weight. I want to be healthy and love my body. I believe that my weight has caused more problems in the way I live my life than anything else. I want to lose weight, but every time I think of something bad or how much I weigh I end up eating and feeling worse. I'm not motivated to work out but when I do I eat a ton afterwards. It seems like none of my friends can help keep me motivated because they are all skinny. I need someone to keep me motivated and I don't know where else to turn. Please help!
